Thur 9th Feb

Vulfix 404 mixed
Vitos red super croap
Schick E2
Schick NOS [ 6-Dutch ]
Alum Rub/ Rinse off
Tuff Green A/S lotion

Followed up yesterdays Shave using the PAL Injecto-Matic with its adversary the E2 , trying to determine
which one tops the other in my favourites list.

A great start today, as the Vitos really does create a Barber shop lather, which helps the Shave go well. I found
the E2 to be as aggressive as the PAL but marginally smoother , with the overall finish a little bit closer. If anything I did take care shaving today and probably invested in more time in getting it right. Still not sure
which I prefer as they each offer their one shaving experience.

Brush: Omega 10098
Razor: iKon 102
Soap: Phoenix and Beau Albion
Post: L'Octtiane eau de L'Occitan

Decided to use two things I haven't used much of. My 102 slant and the Albion. I love thescent of the Albion but for me the performance feels a little lacking. I think my soap is from a bad batch around last summer (same issue with Denali, bought the same time). It feels softer than some of my others and loading it is all slimey for lack of a better word. Still managed to get it to work, pastey more than lather.

A good shave was had, albeit a wee bit aggressive.

Thursday...

Soap - Wickham's 1912 Cashmere
Brush - Omega 10800 Boar
Face lather
Razor - Ever Ready 1924
Blade - Gem Personna #2
Post - Thayer's
Smell - Guerlain Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum

The 'Shovelhead' provided a lovely, smooth shave today and the 1912 Cashmere needs no further recommendation from me, except perhaps to say that it's one of my favourite non-tallow soaps.

Have a great day, folks.

I got a similar experience with the Star Noir last week. I may have stored it wet. I left the lid off for a couple of days and, although soft, it has dried out a bit. The 'slime' helped by dipping the brush tips in water (if face lathering) or dribbling a little in the bowl. They are thirsty soaps and I found that this improved matters.

I have heard that batch quality varies with Star Noir; softness and an ammonia smell (which I have experienced) for instance.

Thursday :)

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's cold-tar soap and Proraso Pre-shave Cream (green).
Razor - Muhle Rocca R96.
Blade - Astra (green) SP (day 1).
Soap - Proraso Shaving Soap Eucalyptus Green
Brush - Simpsons Duke 2.
Post shave - Proraso Aftershave Splash, Menthol and Eucalyptus.

Nice 2 pass shave, the Rocca was giving very good audible feedback today - first time I have noticed!

Skin feeling great.

I received them in the Summer, it was particularly hot from what I remember, I did put them in the fridge but they have always seemed softer. I added heaps of water today and it made for a nice coating as opposed to lather.

I think from Star Noir onwards the soaps are being cured for several weeks more. I have read online others having the same issues with batches pre-dating the Star Noir release. It's still usable but not something I reach for often, which is a shame.

Alas, I must concur. That said, Baskerville seems to be behaving itself; which probably is due to the curing argument you outline.

Razor...Muhle R41 windrose fat handle
Blade..Derby Premium #2
Soap..OSP..Bay Rum
Brush..Omega 48 boar with custom resin handle with thanks to @SomersetShaver
Post..Thayers lavender AF witch hazel
AS..Fine platinum

My second use of a Derby premium blade, bought to test .

A problem free shave, the Derby premium was sharp and smooth enough to do as it should. For me, I prefer a sharper blade but these did the job and left me clean shaven. I think the Astra SP are better than these so I will not be buying any more but don't let my opinion put you off trying these . :)

Untill the next time......
