S.O.T.D. Saturday 11th March to Friday 17th March 2017

Thursday

Soap - Wickham's 1912 Cashmere
Brush - Semogue 2000 boar
Face lather
Razor - Ever Ready 1914 'Lather Catcher'
Blade - Gem Personna with a full shim
Post - Thayer's Rose Petal and argan oil
Smell - Alt-Innsbruck EdC

Not a bad shave. The 1914 takes a bit longer to get a decent finish compared to some 1912 variants and (especially) the vintage Schicks. It got there, though; not the closest but presentable.

The 2000 is breaking in fine. 3rd outing and still settling down with a bristle lost here and there. Given there's thousands of them it's not an issue. It's a great face latherer and took no time generating plenty thick, protective 1912 goodness.

Alt-Innsbruck to finish what was a decent shave.

Be well everyone.

Brush: Semogue Owners Club Two Band Badger (Cherry Wood)
Razor: Hone Type 15 w/ Personna Super 'Med Prep' (2)
Soap: Valobra Cologne
Post: Marks and Spencer Collezione Classic

My first use of a Valobra soap, smaller than I expected looks bigger in the photographs (that's what she said). But what a soap, a fantastic tallow soap. I was unsure what to expect with the scent 'cologne' seemed very vague but to me it smells like Phoenix and Beau Albion. A great shave all round, I quite fancy giving this another run out tomorrow.

Personna Red blade (1)
Razorock 24mm plissoft brush ('Bruce')
P&B Sanskrit soap.

My first shave with a synthetic brush and it didn't disappoint. A tonne of thick slippery lather was created easily and it was a pleasure to rub on my face. (The first time I have had Bruce swirl on my face to be fair!). Will I be throwing away my badgers? I don't think so, there is something too nice about them though I fear I may have just found some space for another one or two synthetic brushes as well as the badgers I have been looking out for.

Mastro Livi CarboInox Kamisori, 7/8

In my collection I have many kamisori razors, both traditional ones made in Japan - and all of them being "vintage" - as well as modern ones, most of them being made by Mastro Livi. It has been quite a long time since the last time I used a kamisori, so today I opted for this breathtaking Mastro Livi CarboInox kamisori. It is a 7/8 blade with a mesmerizing Mastro Livi twisted carbon damascus steel in the middle layer, wonderfully making a perfect match with the shiny stainless steel outer layers. A super performing shaver, this Mastro Livi kamisori gives a very very close shave while delivering a lovely smooth sensation on the skin. Not to mention the superlative performance of Mastro Livi "Pennello Italiano" shave brush, a super silvertip badger brush having a handle made of five different woods and an insert made of semi-precious stones with the colors of the Italian flag. The soap did a magnificent job - Saponeria Artigiana is, in my opinion, one of the best Italian shaving soaps - which found in Pinaud Clubman Classic aftershave a great companion. Superb shave!
