Recommend me a boar!

So, I borrowed Steve's Semogue 610 but didn't really get on with it. It convinced me that a boar brush wasn't going to be like lathering with a pan scourer but I think it's too small for me really and I can't get enough lather into it.

Encouraged with the idea of boars in general though I ordered an Omega 49 from Shave Lounge for the princely sum of £8.95. So far I've used it twice and am hugely impressed. It really chews into a puck but feels pretty soft on the face already, which I'm expecting to improve as it breaks in, although I noticed that out of the box quite a few of the tips are split. After the second shave the piggy scent is decreasing, but I don't really mind that anyway, it just smells like an animal.

I think this will make an excellent addition to my rotation, and it's affordable enough to recommend to newbies. I can see me becoming a boar fan!

Semogue make better brushes IMO. Omega have good bristles but the handles are a let down - not in shape - but feel/quality. However, great brush for what you pay.

Boars are not lather hogs when you load them correctly. I find I need more product with a boar than a similar sized badger.

I agree that the handle is nothing to write home about, it is comfortable but it feels cheap. That said, this is a £9 brush. I think my ideal would be something the size of the 49, with a nice acrylic handle, and natural ie not dyed bristles but I do not think such a beast exists.

I can always upgrade to a nicer brush later on.

The Omega 20102 that I have has a fantastic feeling handle - even better than I had expected! I don't have any Semogue to compare it to, but I can really see it being topped.

My personal recommendation : if you like acrylic handles, try the Omega 31025. Better handle than typical plastic ones from this brand with a long, dense soft knot without break in work need.

A bit more expensive than other but worth the money. It's available both in shaving.ie & connaughtshaving.

Cheers

My only experience with boar is the Semogue Owners Club but I can say it's an absolutely fantastic brush when it's broken in - especially with soaps. The handle is an ergonomic delight of a thing, so comfortable to hold - it just 'fits' your hand (that's the best way I can think to describe it) and it has good water retention, making lathering easy. A fantastic brush for the price IMHO.

I use an omega 49 at the moment great brush, but have took delivery of 2 brushes from semogue the 830 and the 1305 will be using them soon and hopefully build my self a little brush rotation system, been trying to get the omega 10066 but no luck yet.

+1 on the Semogue 1305, I bought one a few months ago and it takes a LOT of breaking in but when it does it's a cracker!

I am assuming you don't have the legendary Vulfix 404 Grosvenor 'bodger', if you don't have one, buy that instead!

So far my Omega 49 is performing like a champ. I've looked at quite a few boars, and I really dislike the dyed bristles. I like the look of the natural bristles of my Omega, why not leave them like that?

My overall favourite brush is my NF Tubby 2, although my 25mm STF is probably the one brush to rule them all due to its extreme ease of care and fast drying.

mr..bean I am tempted with the V404 as it is selling in the shavingshack for £10.99 plus postage just now but alas I have spent a few quid this month already, yep go DE shave route and you will save money LMFAO

The Vulfix 404 is the very best bit of value in the wet shaving world if you ask me. Surely the handle is worth more? I have heard that they use the same care and precision on these handles as they do their more expensive brushes and I have heard people buying them just to reknott them with something more luxurious!

I love mine, if fact I have met anyone who didn't.
