Razor Burn but I need to shave!!!

@markmonaghan I find Polsilver, Astra Super Platinum and Shark Super Stainless give the best results for me so we are are equal there!

Hi again

I've never heard of polsilver. I tend to get good mileage put of the astras and the sharks tbh. They tend to be my go to blades regardless of what razor I use. I get about 4/5 shaves out of each blade

Where do you get polsilver from?

Thanks in advance....

Thanks in advance.

Had a terrible shave on Monday with my R41...

So, guys what do you recommend?...

Ditch the R41 for a milder razor. It's just too harsh except for a few that want a really close shave and know how to utilize (read tame) this little beast. Shaving shouldn't make you feel like you spent the night being interrogated in an Iranian prison.

Agreed, and maybe try a calmer (!) blade...

Depends on what you use. For example I can't use derby's or feathers, way too harsh...

BTW how long have you been using your razor was it the first one you bought? I got it wrong with my original parker and ended up giving it away (before I found this site).

Keep at it and you'll be fine.

Regards

Mark

Polsolver Super Iridium are consistently recommended as one of the best DE blades out there. They may or may not have ceased production at St Petersberg Gilette. I have never got to the bottom of that but still plenty on ebay or here at Gemstone (who are still pushing the discontinued story)

Thanks!! Order made (like I needed more blades....) let's not tell the wife about the arko shaving cream and some balms.....

What's a guy to do?

I'll review and update you accordingly.

Thanks

Definitely go for a gentler razor. I have not gone near a R41. Inwould recommend an Edwin Jagger, A Parker 24c (cheap and nice balance of efficiency and gentleness) a Merkur 37c and a Dorco 602 plastic safety razor. All these provide decent irritation free blades. The Pols in an R41 may be too sharp if you have sensitive skin...I don't know. They have a great balance between sharpness and smoothness though the cheaper Astras are not too far behind.

Thanks guys - I find I do need a more aggressive razor usually so favour that type (Futur, Piccolo and R41) i think I just used the blade too long. For the shave I started this thread about I ended using an EJ89 with a new Astra and it was fine use witch hazel after it and the burn has gone now.

Polsilvers are excellent by the way! I have a 37C but not tried it yet maybe tonight! -- And I might get the Dorco you mention as I have a holiday coming up and it sounds ideal for that!

As other people have suggested a milder blade is your friend. Not sure about Feather blades mind. Personally I would go for Astra blades the ones in green packet. I have yet to see anyone have a bad shave with these baby's.

Again I will with others endorse what Wayne pointed out and use some Aloe Vera Gel post shave to sooth and calm any sore skin.

Obviously other things can improve your shave but the mentioned two above will greatly improve your shave while you dial in the other shaving variables.

@Dai Boy good luck! :)

I wonder if Aloe Vera 99.9 is effective against razor bumps too? Totally with you on Astras @Fox and as for Feathers, I only tried them once and they were super sharp yes but super harsh too and gave me bad razor burn and ingrown hairs: definitely the most horrid blades I have ever used along with Derby (at the other end of the extreme). Astras are a great all round blade along with Voshkod for me. Both are smooth and comfortable.
