On returning my 30 year old Sheaffer white dot fountain pen to daily use, a small plastic sleeve fell out of the cap. My question is, what is it's function in life, and would the pen work/store OK without it?

Generally that inner cap is there to make sure that it seals properly to stop your nib from drying out. Depending how airtight the outer cap is you may get away without it, but it's probably best to put it back in.

I shall discuss it with the little guy immediately and reprimand as appropriate LOL Seriously, it's a small script of software that is totally harmless, and is individual to everyone that views it. It's meant as a bit of fun, and there's nothing sinister about it. Unusual though for it to be so wrong though, even if you don't have a static IP address...
