Photo of the day

@Helveticum @Barry Giddens - portrait - Kabul 1996. A stoned 13 year old with an AK47 - just what a country - or indeed a photographer needs. Thankfully, he was in a good mood and seemed to like me. Olympus OM series body, quite wide - 28mm or 24mm. Kodak Tri-X. cheers - I.
Hopefully he's remembered to flick his rifle onto 'safety'...:D
The photos are great by the way...

Thank you - you mostly never knew. The safety is on one side of this rifle and you couldn't always see it. Even before the Russians invaded and the resulting chaos ensued - this was a heavily armed culture. It was a birth right - and indeed a mark of manhood - to carry a weapon. Many weapons in a lot of cases. It always amused me that at the entrances to mosques and hospitals they had big signs with the silhouette of an AK crossed out boldly. Leave your guns at the door. A big pile of shoes and weapons. cheers - I.

Crazy! But I like the way he's holding his rifle. Perfectly placed for a 7.62mm round to go right through his hand.
Good job he's stoned...:D

Going on a trip to Israel for a few days, will hopefully bring some fresh material from there.
In the meantime, another portrait - from 2006 I think, after I got my first DSLR.
