Photo of the day

Well, talking colour film - I don't have that many shots to post, but here's one that's quite special to me, despite being taken with a cheap camera long time ago. It's about the memories.
Fishing near Kodiak, Alaska.

@Helveticum - 'Fishing near Kodiak' - that's a phrase to conjure with. Very cool indeed. Must of been a hard gig? Punishing conditions. You seem to have been in places I've always wanted to go to. My sister went to Alaska - to ski. Apart from finding massive moose wandering down the main street - her abiding memory was being in a bar one evening and it snowed so heavily that they weren't allowed to leave. A health and safety lock-in. You have no idea how happy that would make a Scottish person. Told to stay in the pub - for your own good. That's my sort of destination. Cheers - I

@Digimonkey Sure I'll post the odd picture or two, but I'm afraid I cannot compete with the absolutely stunning landscapes that have been posted recently! Here's one from the Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.

@Whitefiver - that's a great picture. Beautifully composed. There's no competition going on here - those contributing to this thread are photographers and our pictures have equal merit. If you want share that's great. Thank you for posting.

Mate - not so much OSP as OCD? Ha ha. There's always time for pop art. Now if you had done that with soup cans or pics of Marilyn Monroe - you could retire. Ha ha. Cheers - I
Ha, nice one :) I am who I am and OCD is a part of that, I can be very obsessive and quite compulsive or is it impulsive ...probably both....anyway I won't be going short of shaving soap so it's not all bad. Yes it always amazed me how Warhols pop art became so popular....but is it art?....well who am I to judge, good luck to anyone who can become a household name and make money at the same time as pissing off the art world, many have done it.
Just a bit of fun, I couldn't possibly compete with the photographic material you and @Helveticum have produced....,absolouly stunning work but I do enjoy seeing it so keep posting your great photos and I may be inspired to be more creative. :) P.

I have a pretty good idea of that. Lived in Glasgow for three years :)
And yeah, that gig was one of the defining events in my life. Something real.
I was there twice as well, first time was on main land.

P.S. need to get hold of a proper scanner before films totally degraded..

That's a beautiful pic. Also, consider yourself an honorary Glaswegian. That's a high honour incidentally. Three years here and you lived to tell the tale? Well done you passed the test. I know what you mean about 'real' jobs - I used to cut down trees as a contract feller when I was younger. Glad I did it but it's not for the middle-aged man I am now. I

Ok, so I have been thinking about the contest, and ready to suggest the format.
We could actually have a monthly event.
Here's what I suggest:
One person runs the fund (PayPal) - either me or you in the beginning. All contenders contribute, say, 3-5 quid if they want to participate, and then organisers set a date for the contest (any Friday). On late evening of a Thursday before that, a topic is announced, and contenders have 72 hours to take and submit the photograph. Only new photographs, shot specifically for the contest, can be submitted. Topics can vary from shaving related naturemorts to street photography, same with post processing. Then there's the usual voting routine for a week, and on the next weekend the winner is announced, and the prize ordered (could be in partnership with one of TSR vendors). Could tie it into some charity as well.
So, what do you folks think? I believe it will only make sense if there's at least 10 contenders.

I think it's a great idea for you accomplished photographers but I feel I will have to sit back and take my pleasure in looking at the wonderfull photographs that a few of you have been producing of late, I for one could not compete with the photographs being shown.
Some of you are professional photographers, some are maybe highly skilled amateurs and some like me are just happy snappers with a camera phone.
I hope it takes off, I for one will look forward to seeing the outstanding work that will be undoubtedly be put forward to be judged by someone?....I think a few different classes could work, and different sections for film, digital, prossesed / non prossesed work ect but maybe it will start getting to complicated then....good luck anyhow. :)

I couldn't be further from an accomplished photographer mate. Just an average amateur. Lots of amateur folks here have shown some great work though, and it's all about the effort and focus, I believe.
So you, for example, wouldn't participate?

I will continue posting the odd picture in this section but after seeing the photos being produced I don't think I could compete in a photographic competition. I don't think I would be alone in this, @Whitefiver has already said he could not compete against the absolutly stunning landscapes that have been posted recently and he has taken some cracking shots in my opinion. Please don't take it as a snub, it wasn't ment to be, I just feel it's not for me.
