Perceived value of high end brushes

Pride of ownership motivates many on here to get a high end brush. The new generation of synthetic knots from the likes of Muhle have really moved the game on. Long may it continue.

I have owned some budget friendly badger brushes and some premium priced. Generally the premium priced badger offer a little nicer handle and the knots are soft well made and hold up well. I have had some very nice knots in the budget friendly brushes however and the gap between the two are very small. In terms of value the budget friendly brushes win. The only way I can explain why I own a premium brush is when I seen the brush I really wanted it, I got the brush and I really liked using it and for me the money was well spent. Likely for others a nice boar brush would do them just fine and I get that as well.

Just as a matter of interest, what budget brush out there will give me the same amount of backbone as a Shavemac D01? Shedding is also a consideration, when I owned Shavemac's they did not shed one single hair. I am genuinely interested in a brush of that quality for a quarter of the price. You will only understand the backbone thing if you have used or owned a D01. :) P

Hard to come close to a D01 with backbone , they are champions of backbone and really only a Rooney Finest or a Simpson Manchurian in my experience has had a similiar characteristic. The really nice examples of budget friendly brushes I have owned had less backbone similiar to Thater and Morris & Forndran , still great for face lathering just not as beastly.

I have used only the Omega pro and the B&B essentials and both have had a nice amount of backbone , the essentials brush I believe had a bit more than the pro , both were exceptional.

My Romera Manchurian Finest 2-band has got plenty of backbone. Was a steal at 65 pounds but then price went up and service down so I would hesitate to recommend a buy today of this otherwise very nice brush.

How would an Omega boar rank among the royalties of backbone?
High! :)

Because of recent poor customer service I would hesitate, no, refuse to buy one! :)

Same backbone as a Shavemac D01?

To be honest I have never handled one and no one over here hardly buys Shavemac for two reasons:

1. exorbitantly priced
2. tons of superb brushes here for far less $$.

I have however handled a friend's Whipped Dog badger and it was a gem and I don't even like badger brushes. It had more backbone than a pissed off Ghurka. ;)
