Closed ***Ended*** Pass Around: Schick Adjustable Injector ***Ended***

  • Prep: Sainsbury's tea tree oil glycerine soap
  • Brush: 24mm Maggard Plissoft
  • Soap: P&B Citra Royale
  • Razor: Schick Adjustable - Set on 5
  • Blade: Personna (1)
  • Post: RSC Balm
As I had a less rushed morning today I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to test drive the Schick Adjustable. Initially the razor has a feel similar due to a cartridge set-up due to its weight and construction etc, but at the business end things are very different, in particular the need to set and maintain an angle, rather than just dragging. Fortunately finding an angle is very intuitive and I found the sweet spot quickly and easily. I followed my usual 2 pass regime the same as with a DE: WTG then XTG with a little touching up afterwards, with the razor set on 5 for my first shave. No issues during the shave itself, I found the razor exceedingly easy to manoeuvre and it dealt with the potentially troublesome hairs (which grow in different directions) around the corners of my mouth admirably. The end result was a very decent shave with not so much as even a hint of irritation or burn etc. It could possibly have been a shade closer, but I will address that tomorrow and crank the razor up to 7 as suggested by @Fergiebilly.

To sum up: So far, so good and I'm looking to forward to another go tomorrow

Firstly thanks to @Steve Bowles for kindly offering the razor and @riverrun for the smooth admin. It's been a very enjoyable fortnight with the Schick Adjustible, although beyond an initial foray on 5, I have left the razor set on 7 throughout following the advice of others more experienced than myself with injectors.

To sum up, once the correct angle is dialled in, I have found the razor both comfortable and efficient to use. Certainly for the last week I have felt very confident and have indeed shaved as fast I would with a familiar and trusted DE. Whilst the current production Personna blades are certainly decent, as with their DE cousins, the vintage are well and truly in a class of their own. I got 8 good shaves from the latter and half that from the former.

Now the key question at the end of this is 'Do I Want One?'. Unfortunately the answer is a resounding 'Yes'. Just need to save a few pennies as things are a shade tight at the moment.

@Fuzzyian it's over to you now. Please PM your details and I'll get everything in the post asap.

Non-adjustable injectors from Type I onwards are quite a bit cheaper than the adjustable Type M and the difference in how they shave is minimal. The heads are all very similar. The 'hydromagic' lever on some models and the adjustable were just gimmicks. Other faces may be able to tell the differences, mine doesn't.

Thanks, very useful to know. I'll keep an eye open for one.

Injector has arrived, first try this evening, once I work out how to change the blade.
Have a look at this video, but do it more slowly than shown, making sure the blade doesn't scrape along the blade stops at the front of the head. Easy does it. Enjoy.

Tried it tonight using a personna dialed it to number 5, it was a bit more chunky and heavier than I expected, on 5 it see,ed to be smooth, but not that efficient, it's a nice quality razor, but lacks something on number 5, I will try it on Thursday on number 7,

Having loaded it with a blade the personna cartridge now seems to be empty, and the Schick cartridge only has one blade in it,

I will feel bad sending it onto blademonkey without any blades, but I have no idea what blades I would need to buy, anyone help with that?

Don't worry about blades. I'll send some to replenish supplies :D
My Personna blade clips are hit and miss and I hope I'll pick one that actually works... Maybe I should send two just in case...
I might as well send them to you, @Fuzzyian, so you can feel better when sending the razor to @Blademonkey.:D Please PM me your address...

Used it again, but cranked it up to the top, still the same smoothness, but much better in aggression, it was only with one days growth, so I will give it a couple of days before re trying.

Well had a couple of more shaves, I can't say that it's giving a great shave with the personna blade in,
Sure it's smooth, but it just doesn't cut all the hairs, I am not sure whether it is my technique or the blade, anyhow changed to the Schick blade for the next shave, hopefully that will work a little better.

Had a couple of shaves with the Schick blade, they are very different, and shave very close when left at the highest number, for the next shave I will turn it down a bit, it's still a better shave than the personna blades, just maybe a little too close.

Well had the last shave with it today, so my conclusions are,
The personna are no where near as good as the Schick blades,

On setting 6 the Schick blades are fantastic, smooth and aggressive enough to give that perfect shave,

Would I buy one, well I already have, though a non adjustable one, I would only ever consider using the Schick blades though, whether it's worth the extra cost and hassle of buying the Schick blades, I am not so sure, if the blades were cheaper and available, then I would be quite happy to use it all the time, and I will be using mine just not all the time,
Once @Blademonkey sends me his address, I will package it up and send it off, though it will probably be Wednesday,
Many thanks for the pass around, it was an itch I needed to scratch.
