Noob just received first setup

The only advice I can offer is stick with what you have until you have mastered it. Don't start looking to change anything just yet. Plenty of time to try different things when you have your technique sorted

Patience is the key.

Yep, that's good advice about the deal starting out....staying with the same razor/blade combo for at least a few weeks and longer's ok too. Takes time to figure out so many variables and trial and error's the only way to get there. replace the blade after 3-4 times.

To the new guy I would suggest doing the one thing you can perform as well as anyone which would be your prep. Make sure you don't rush that part because bad prep is tough to overcome for anyone.

As Mr K says, be patient and it'll all become clear.

Martin

Oh, let me just mention that a new person trying to concoct a decent lather....well it can take a while.

Thanks so much guys for all the advice and welcomings. I spent a good hour on my first Go, did about 3 or so passes trying to get my whole area covered where there is growth. As for nicks and cuts, I did pretty well only 1 cut and I didn' even know I had done it till I saw a little red spot. As for the results well amazing so smooth and the Mrs like it' too ;)

I had watched quite a ot of videos prior so knew about the pressure ex so all went pretty smoothly literally. Not perfect but not bad for my first attempts, already looking forward to my second crack at it, smells so lovely too.

For the guys offering the box and blades yes please count me In, would love to start exploring this wonderful world some more.

Hi Dean. I'm glad your first shave went well. The DE89 was my first razor and the one which I use daily, never got on with feather blades though!!
I second you on feather blades , i was kindly sent one to try and found them very rough, which was odd for me, as i get on with most blades, aggressive & non-aggressive.

They definitely smooth out after the first use. First pass for the first use is not far off the roughest I've experienced personally. I'd put it down to sheer sharpness.

Thank you sir, Yes Im going to try the Bluebeard blade next time, see if there is any difference.

Just out of curiosity why do you not get on with feather blades?

Also what is a feather blade, is it an industry standard or something, or some kind of brand?

Feather is a Japanese brand and it makes all sorts of blades including DE blades, they are very sharp indeed and not too smooth on the first use. P.

Something else to consider Dean is that you don't need to spend lots to enjoy a good shave. True, I have bought some nice soaps and balms a nd now have 6 razors, but Palmolive shave stick at 50p is a great performer. As for balms, good old fashioned moisturiser is fine also. You don't have to spend spend spend. As for pre shave etc, for me all I do is was my face with cold water, face lather and do the shave not bothering with pre shave. Everyone is different so see what works best for you. As others have said stick with one method until your technique is sorted and then experiment a little.
