New to DE razors

So I am stuck in the UK because of the weather. Most hotel are fully booked. I ended up in a hotel outside Norwich. It is an old building from the 17th century. How do you guys manage with the two taps? One has ice cold water and the other scorching hot. I know ... fill the basin. It was a challenge to brush my teeth - I should have used a glass I guess. But why is the mirror on the other wall and not behind the basin?

The taps, I can understand they must be odd if you are used to a mixer tap but the mirror is on the other wall so it doesn't get steamed up from the hot tap! P.

I too can understand why you miss the mixer tap, but anything other than cold water for brushing and rinsing confuses me.

Using the mixer, the cold water I normally use is not as cold. However I got a lovely shave with a T&H Lavander sample cream, Stirling brush, Rockwell R3 with a Wilkinson Sword blade.
