Mid to late 50s I think.....I would be happy to be proved wrong though!
That actually looks OK!
What about a nice vintage retro Merkur Progress 800/830?
Amazing! Looks like it might lack 'weight' though.
The German text in the linked post reads something like:
The guy also says that it shaves just as a normal Progress does.
Pollopas was a brand name for a type of urea-formaldehyde
Back then in 1956 the gold plated 572 with leather case was 28 German Marks,
the chrome plated 500 with pastic box was 9 German Marks
and the cool Pollopas 830 could be had for a mere 3 German Marks in a cardboard box...
Good luck finding one though...
There was this one a couple of months ago - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1960s-cas...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Ouch. £120. Looking at historical exchange rates, 3 German Marks were about 12/- (twelve shillings) back then (60p if you want it decimal) - good investment.
Production started in 55. I'm not sure when the plastic guard plate was dropped, my mid 70s issue gold Progress has the red numbers but metal guard plate.
