Well last night I learnt that there's a right and wrong to re-assemble a Futur after cleaning - the right way allows the adjustment to work as it should, the wrong way doesn't and gives you a huge blade gap, which I discovered half way through the first pass.

So if you're cleaning a Futur and you re-assemble it, check the adjustment mechanism prior to using. It's an easy fix if it's wrong, turn the head around and it solves the problem, but my face is a bit tender today in a few spots.
 
I have a Futur and I find it absolutely brilliant. It is a bit of a bugger to shave under the old nose but nothing that a bit of facial contortion cannot fix. I have 3 other razors that I now rarely use because they simply do not perform to the level of the Futur

I've never had an issue with it before, just re-assembled with the head the wrong way round. Won't be doing that again, it's a lesson learnt...
 
Well after the butchery the other night, tonight's shave was chalk and cheese, with the razor back together with the head the right way round (lesson learnt), I've just had a cracking shave. I was a bit apprehensive on the first pass so I left it on setting 1, went up to setting 2 for the second pass and back to 1 for the third, with a new Wilkinson Sword blade, I'm BBS and no issues.
 
The coating material may not be strong and durable, I wish I was able to purchase B&R Adjustable which is made from whole stainless steel.

I used my Futur at least two or three times a week for seven years (it was my only razor), and it hasn't got a mark on it. The finish is still as good as new.
What have you used to clean it ?

Oops! That'll do it!
Diluted white vinegar or soapy water and a toothbrush usually does the trial.
I've cleaned my Futur in an ultrasonic bath of diluted medical grade disinfectant recently. It came out like new.
