I think i am converting to facelathering

Well, same here!

And I'll add I have never ever run out of lather. Using a 30 mm 2-band Paladin all over my face is... priceless!

I believe you, i can do 4 passes with my 21mm EJ Pure badger. The Yaqi best badger i got, instead of 22mm turns out it's 24mm and already has bloomed into what i think is a very big brush. I can't even fathom how lathering with a 30mm monster must be.

However, i have read boar users with thin knots and short lofted boars, running out of lather. Like Semogue 1460/1470.

A pleasure, a total and unmitigated pleasure it is!

As for small boars... yup! I've got a 1470 and it does the work, but it's too... small... yes.

I started with the Proraso brush, which was a lather monster, but i thought it was overkill and i think i won't be going beyond 24mm. With a 30mm badger, you must be like drowning in a bush of lather! :D But to each its own. I even know guys who like facelathering with an Omega 48. I still can't imagine how they do that! o_O

Thanks for the confirmation about the 1470. I was considering it just to try Semogue's bristles without having to deal with the typical Semogue "big bloom", but i need a brush that can carry lather for 4 passes and i think shorter than 55mm loft, this is going to be very tough. I will probably stick with my army of medium Omegas.

Actually, I like the Semogue, but I prefer bigger brushes... 24 mm was my usual standard yet it obviously also depends on the type of hair (two band, silvertip...), kind of knot (fan, bulb, hybrid), backbone (density, resilience...).. The two band hair of the Paladin brushes is excellent, extremely well balanced, never excessive (for me...)... I wouldn't buy (nor use...) a 30 mm of ultra dense hair (e.g. Simpsons).

I think it may be a natural progression, by the comments of other members. I'm with the group as having started out with a bowl (another cool object in the beginner's arsenal), but have decided on face-lathering as the way to go.

Yes, I think so. In my case, my father was a facelatherer and facelathering is what he taught me... so, facelathering it is. I have never used a bowl, even in my dark years (when I used cream, brush... but a disposable...).

My pleasure.

I think 24mm knots are my upper limit too. I think 24x55mm is my perfect boar size. I simply think Semogue boars have too much bloom for my taste, so i had thought that the shorter lofted 1470 could be the answer. Because how much can possibly a short loft bloom... Anyway, maybe in the future i will buy a 1250. Thing is, i 've already seen bloom photos and i find it "too much". But who knows... Frankly, i like my boars just find and i don't intend to spend a patrimony on badgers. They have too many quirks for my taste and i can't justify the price difference.

I have now 3 badgers. The 24mm Yaqi best badger, is my best badger and dimensions seem perfect. I may order a 2nd identical brush. My 20mm EJ pure badger is very good facelather. My 23mm EJ best badger, is floppy and eats lather. So, i think i am done with badgers. I can give a last 20 EUR for a spare Yaqi badger and that's it. The Yaqi works well, has backbone, is cheap, hasn't lost a hair during the first shave, i see no reason to continue "the endless chase for the perfect badger", like i read someone else saying. 2 boars, 2 badgers, 1 synth sounds like the final rotation.

Since switching to synthetic brushes I now only face lather. They produce so much more quality lather, compared to my previous badgers. My bowls and badgers are now gathering dust in the attic.

Face lathering helped me with ingrown hairs some years ago. I thought the extra exfoliating of my face would have made ingrown hairs worse but the opposite was true, go figure?

Quicker - check
Less fuss - check
Better shaves - check

It's a no brainier for me. YMMV of course

straight razor shaving: I bowl lather because it offers me full control
safety razor shaving: I face lather because it is convenient and ok lather will do, supreme is not the goal
