I going to try giving up smoking...Again

Don't know if it's just STV in our region Big Bro, however we've been having a very futuristic ad featuring drones, glowing tents and some awffy photogenic models. The ad is very definitely aimed at presenting vaping as a new, cutting edge technology. Although, to be honest, it doesn't really seem to have much to do with the product.

Blessed if I know Carl, I'll need to pay more attention if/when I see it again. I don't watch much TV. The final set seems to be in an artic or Alaskan type of wilderness setting with a guy & a girl vaping at each other ( and no, that's not a euphimism ) and these illuminated tents are in the background. It's all very moody, intense and cutting edge. Next time I'll try to see who the advertisers are.

Nishy, the NHS is a sealed system owned and developed by BigFagCo. Given a licence by the gov. Sold to the NHS @£20 a pop, yours for £8 prescription and it doesn't work. We the taxpayer, are being done over a barrel. The gov will now get it's tax, see? They have the control again. My vape habit probably costs me a tenner a month. Where are they getting £20? If you can afford smokes, you can afford a reasonable vape set up. Not a throwback to the dark ages.

It's the glamorisation that is the danger IMO, difficult to split a business and a health aid as one product, further more, given the negative connotations already associated with smoking.

Just seen this ad again at 6.00pm . It's for Vivid Vaping and I believe it can be seen online by googling the co name.

Ah! No wonder they got themselves in the shadow of The Moral High Ground! With 20/20 hindsight, that ad was always going to get them in trouble! I like the pink(ish), glowing tents. We know of a shaving brush that would fit into that scene!

I've tried vaping on and off for a few years without much success just with the usual cheap pens. As I really need to give up the cigarettes with a baby on the way. So I decided to try out a better kit.

I went for an Aspire K4 kit after much googling (they are £40 in my local shop but Amazon Prime have them for under £24 now) and have just loaded it up and tried it out tonight. It is in a whole different league from I've ever tried before!

With the old pens, I used to use a strong 25ml but I soon got confused by all these new PG & VG ratio's, sub-ohming, etc. On the recommendation of the local vape shop, I'm using a high VG menthol/spearmint but they are quite expensive so I've ordered some Heisenberg high HVG from here: http://www.onepoundeliquid.com/10ml-high-vg-eliquid-heisenberg-hvg.html and some other mint ones (without the high VG I'm hoping that they'll work ok). At only £1 each, they work out about a fifth the price of the local vape shops.

Can anyone tell me how long I can expect the coils to last and any links to a good affordable High VG Mint/Menthol E-Liquid?

It's very early days, but I'm hoping that this helps me to kick the habit at long last!

As you've learned by now, it's easy to give up smoking, but it's hard to stay off tobacco. I managed to kick the habit 24 years ago after repeated attempts over many years. I did it cold turkey. Today, I can't stand the smell of cigarettes and have not been tempted to take up the habit again. I've also stopped smoking cigars and pipes even though I do like the smell of them. Good luck in your effort; you only stand to benefit physically and financially.

Welcome to the 3rd generation of vaping (it's moved on a little since then).
Coils should last you, well, it depends - there's a bunch of variables in play... Generally speaking the biggest two are the wattage you're vaping at (power equates to temperature) and the flavourings in the liquid.
I'm a little confused as to what kind of mod (battery kit) is being used... I find references that it's regulated at a fixed 4.2V which, with a 0.27 ohm resistance in the coil indicates should mean that you're vaping at 65 watts, yet the coil seems to have 40 to 55 watts printed on it. Thus I can't comment on that variable.
Regarding juice (eliquid), some flavourings (deserts especially) are more prone to clogging up the coils and thus corrupting the cotton. You'll know when this is happening because the flavour will diminish in quality (eventually becoming hot / horrid and not terribly good for you - although you'll not vape that because it is so very very unpleasant).
The obvious last variable is how much liquid you vape... Now, that's an interesting one - you've ventured into the world of `sub-ohming` / direct to lung inhales - you will get through juice much faster than you would at lower temperatures. Bottom line is that there isn't an answer to your `how long` question.

I vape using the old school tech (unregulated mods.. as charge decreases the voltage drops) and typically vape (mouth to lung) at between 15 to 19 watts. I use Kayfun's and build my own coils using Kanthal wire and Ken Do Gen cotton (clean, organic and excellent wicking properties). Recoiling takes me about ten minutes and I'll change coils every 3 to 7 days, depending upon what I'm vaping and how much. Typically I vape around 40ml a week at 12mg/ml

Liquid - it's rare for me to buy pre-made liquid as I mix my own. I do this partly for cost (I am not what some would call well-off), partly because I know exactly what I'm using and how the organic flavours break down under heat and partly because of the compensation scheme for tobacco and pharmaceutical companies for this disruptive technology (Article 20 and the European Tobacco Products Directive) requires a certain amount of future proofing before a black market becomes a necessary evil. It's odd how concious I am about safety given the length of time I used a nicotine / CO mix infused within tar and various nasties like formaldehyde and heavy metals.

My path is all a bit complicated for a newcomer like you.

I've not heard bad things about the one pound e-liquid folks but for links, recommendations and general information, I suggest you lurk around the very friendly AAEC forum (mods, please remove the link if not permitted). You'll find me under the same alias although I'm not terribly active these days. You'll find discount codes and, hey, perhaps introduce yourself. Be warned, though - exposure to the denizens of that particular room is even more expensive than here.

Good luck with both abstinence and fatherhood (they are both great).

I'm in America, so can't help with the vendor question.

VG and PG ratios. :) Simple stuff.
VG is what makes the "clouds."
PG is what gives you that nice throat hit.

VG is generally what makes people cough.

This is just my opinion you are only giving up something that's incredibly harmful and dangerous to replace it with something slightly less harmful with the same addictive issues plus it's still sucking money out of your pocket, to me it's like a alcholic saying he's giving up whiskey and from now on he's only drinking beer.
