Gillette blades

Of the Mostochlegmash blades, the Voskhod seems to be the most popular Russian non PPI blade. IMO, the Vosk isn't as sharp as any of the PPI blades but is one of the most forgiving blades out there.

I like all the PPI blades, I've been using the 7OC Yellow a lot recently which is excellent but on the unforgiving side of things. My favourite for smoothness and sharpness is the Permasharp Super Stainless.

Before ordering the 300 Voskhods, that hopefully will arrive tomorrow (crossing fingers), i had already too many blades, enough to think that i would never buy another. But since people are raving about them, i ordered a tuck. And i was SHOCKED from the WTG pass. This blade, WTG, glides like glass. I couldn't believe it! I mean, i stopped and looked at the razor to make sure that the blade was inserted normally. XTG and ATG wasn't anything i hadn't seen before, but this WTG pass was phenomenal. So i had to order 300 from Russia, because here i would have to pay 56,50 EUR (shipped) from an local online shop, while from Russia, i ended up paying 21,50 EUR shipped, with tracking number. If it wasn't for the fear of customs, i would have ordered more. But, at the end, 300 i think is good enough...

But, seriously, smoothest blade ever WTG... Everyone should try Voskhod just for the WTG pass.

I've tried a few Gillette blades. The 7 o'clock Yellow's, Green's, Black's, Silver Blue and Platinum. Although I've read rave reviews of the Black ‘Super Platinum' I didn't get on with them at all. I swapped them for my favourite blade the Gillette Platinum's. The GP's are sharp and very smooth. The Yellows are great too.

What's the difference between Gillettes with blue line and these in the pic below.

Which Gilletes are Silver Blue, are there white and dark platinums?

I've never seen the packaging of the Platinum's above. I'm sure someone will come along a lot more knowledgeable than myself to let you know.

These are Sliver Blues...

I'm currently trying GSB, Platinum, 7 o'clock sharp edge (yellow), 7 o'clock super Platinum (black) and Nacet.

I've tried
GSB - so smooth and a blade I love. It's so smooth that bad technique can catch you out.
Nacet - a bit rough compared to GSB, but lasts longer and is forgiving.
Platinum- good balance between GSB and Nacet. Very similar to GSB, but I need to do a side by side test to be sure.

Others still to try.

I am in Croatia and I bought the ''white'' Platinum in a local store.
According to many sources, there are not the same as Silver Blue or Dark platinums. These Whites are called also ''Swedes'' and cost more than the Dark platinums....
Some do say the only difference is in the market they are on.
So far I have not found a reliable info and still don't know what is the truth.

For instance:

I would really like someone to make a list of all Gillette blade types :D

Searching the net I just saw these for the first time :

Swedes are long discontinued. They acquired that name due to the customer service address on the back of the card hanger.

The grey packs are Brazilian in origin, but exported to the US amongst other places

I tried a "Swede" once and if ever there was a blade over-hyped then it was it. To me it shaved more like an Indian Gillette blade, i.e., rougher than a usual Russian one.

The Gillette Brazilian Platinum Plus blades are just simply marvelous!! Countless SxS tests on the Internet by wet shavers have confirmed that they are for all intents & purposes the same blade as the "Golden Age" one. I think Gillette promised the engineers who set up the line in Brazil swimsuit models as test shave subjects in order to coax out their best performance. ;)

I tried the yellow sharp edge tonight. Fairly underwhelmed. I've been consistent in my testing by using the same prep, soap, brush, and razor (Merkur Progress) on a certain setting for each blade.

It felt rough compared to the others. Sometimes roughness for me translates to strong cutting/great beard reduction, but not the case this time. Lots of touching up required.

They do seem quite popular, so must suit other people's beards and razors better
