Derby Blades

I am with you HM, I am stocked for the shavocalypse, the recent addition of the Kai blades to the treasure chest took me to just over the two thousand blade mark.

My plan is to have enough blades to "see me out" (working on shaving 365 days per year, 3 shaves per blade - that's roughly 8 years per 1000 blades) - at least out of shaving - so my interim target for end-2009 is to have 3000 and see where 2010 takes me. I may keep going on the shavocalypse planning though in case my son decides to start the right way (he's not scheduled to come on stream until 2016 at very earliest though  )

2 good shaves seems to be the limit for a Derby, if last night's experience is anything to go by. I've only just started using them, so I don't want to rubbish them prematurely, but that's worse performance than I get from the often derided Wilkinsons.

That would be premature rejectulation :)

Well, mine come in the ridged white plastic thingummy and seem all right to me, which is just as well because I keep finding packs which I've salted away "just in case". Until fairly recently I used them exclusively, but then I discovered Feathers, and I've just got a sample pack from Connaught, hence the Derbys. I take it that the Wilkinson Economie ones are going to be gruesome, then?

Most of my stash of white pack Wikinsons came from my old barber who must've died at least a decade ago, so maybe that's what I've got. He was a considerable loss as people able to do a sharpish haircut in five minutes of stony silence for £3 are hard to find.

Personally i got a poor shave from Derby's a few nicks and lots of tugging / irritation. I have just tried feathers and Iridiums which both gave really great results. I know any review is subjective but i cant help feeling the performance of each blade (assuming the blade is not defective) is dependant on bread type. I have a very coarse / dense beard and so it seems i require a sharp blade where as some one with a light / medium beard may not. I know this may seem obvious but unless beard type is stated it is hard to draw any conclusions other then my own.
Cheers all
