After Shave Advice

Hi all.
5 months in to my first time DE shaving life (shameful at 53, I know) and I'm loving it.
A couple of videos were very useful early on in helping me with my technique, but both stated that alcohol based after shave should not go anywhere near a freshly shaved face. But I have noticed in the SOTD forum that a lot of you guys love a splash after a shave. And I must admit that I liked a little 'sting' in the past. What is the general thinking here? And would a splash follow some balm?

Do whatever works for you! I use DR Harris Marlborough A/S after every shave, followed up with a balm. Other aftershaves I've tried don't work as well for me - but YMMV.

I use both lotions and balms, it is usually based more on the scent, however if I have had a rough shave with irritation I might favour a balm. One thing I always use is witch hazel after a shave.

For me it's aftershave followed by a balm or moisturiser.

I always use an alcohol based splash. Only other thing I might try is some alum, but only if I get a nick. Try a few different ones to start with, it's very subjective.

Alcohol based splashes are great for my oily skin. Balms should be more beneficial to faces with dry skin. YMMV.

I always use Thayers witch hazel after my shave followed with a splash of after shave then finish off with a balm, although I find some of the balms to be quite greasy and now use 100% aloe vera gel.

Get a couple of Myrsol afterhsaves - Balsamica for when you had a rough one, and anything else according to your preferences for daily use.

Alcohol based lotions cause adverse skin reactions for me, they're also alleged to dry out and age the skin. ( That's a tip I got from everyone's favourite psycho, Pat Bateman ). For me a balm or cream such as Myrsol emulsion or one of the Bulldog range work fine.

Its depends on what skin type you have. For me i only use alum and aftershave splash
post shave as i have oily skin and the aftershave helps control it for me.
