New update from ATT :)

The new plate has arrived, looks exactly the same to my eyes but for the leading edge which has a thinner profile, pics later if tapatalk sorts itself out. Might get a go with it tomorrow.
I did read somewhere that he is "remachining" the original plates , so what you have is an original plate that has been machined to be more agressive , I hope it works for you .

I have been following all three of these new razors that take standard SE blades with some interest. Windows 95's superb photo's are the first I too have seen with so much intricate detail and the first thing that seems to jump out at you (at least at me) is how little blade protrusion there is. As we all know aggression /lack of it is mainly due to a combination of blade protrusion and blade gap but it is quite possible to have an aggressive razor with a small blade gap and a lot of blade protrusion.

Have ATT skimmed a piece off the front underside of the plate to increase the blade gap and left the plate the same size? If that is the case the blade protrusion will remain the same and whilst a bigger gap will help make the razor more aggressive I would have thought a bit more blade protrusion combined with a bigger gap would help address the mildness problem better.

I sound like an armchair critic as I have never even held the razor, least of all shaved with it and I have little comprehension of the costs involved in testing prototypes but is this all being done in a rush to try and get a market share?

It is hard to see what ATT have done, if the the front edge of the safety bar is thinner they have machined some metal off the flat surface with the holes in it, either at the same angle as it was originally machined or at a slanting angle tapering towards the front of the razor, either method would increase the blade gap. If the total width from front to back of the plate remains the same they have decided not to increase the blade protrusion. Only a shave test will tell you how successful the mod. has been but any metal removed from the section with the holes in it must increase the blade gap.

I guess from ATT's perspective it is difficult to judge how mild/aggressive will please the majority of customers.

Thank's for keeping us up to date and I look forward to hearing how the test shave goes.

Yes it does help, the blade gap looks a good deal greater on pictures one and four (at least to my substandard eyes) it looks like they have increased the blade gap by machining metal off the section with the holes at the same angle as it was originally machined. It appears they have not altered the plate size and thus the protrusion.
What they have done IMHO cannot fail to give more aggression, it's just a case of how much.

Nope. On the first pass wtg I could feel more cutting but not enough, re lathered, 2nd pass wtg, again not enough, another razor would usually have done the hard work by now.
Re lathered for against the grain, this should be down to the wood on this, a couple of strokes and again the razor was down.

Quickly loaded my Gillette Slim to finish, even the Nannys Moroccan Sands could not save this shave, one of my worst in a long time.
Its a thing of beauty to look at but unfortunately I will have to email Stan for a return.
