Closed 1914 AND 1924 SE Passaround

I have now used both of these razors and I will share with you my first impressions of each...
Visually, neither look as good as my 1912. The handle and the head of the 1912 just look that little bit more refined and ornate. Whereas the heads of the 1914 and 1924 appear, to my eyes, to be more about the function than the aesthetics.
Loading of the blade (and shim) I found to be trickier than the 1912. As already mentioned, the shim acts like a wedge to hold the blades firmly in place. I found this especially true on the 1924 with its reverse opening, which I very much dislike: more about that later...
The head opening and closing on the 1912 is genius. The head opening and closing on the 1914 and 1924, again are more functional and less clever.
So, with blade and shim loaded I gave the 1914 its first test run. I found the handle a bit on the small side which I found a little more difficult to control. Reportedly a more aggressive razor than the 1912, I didn't initially find that it felt aggressive during use. The AS disagreed. I did however find that it didn't shave as smoothly or efficiently as the 1912. I can quite easily get a DFS in a single WTG pass with the 1912, but I found lots of stubble remaining after the first pass with the 1914. A XTG pass took care of some of this but again evidence of patchy stubble remained. I decided that an ATG pass would've asking for trouble so went XTG again and finished there resulting in a disappointing finish TBH. As I said, the AS stung a touch as well and I was a bit sore around my chin... I held higher hopes for the 1924.
I found loading (and unloading especially) the blade and shim a bit trickier on the 1924. Loading the blade on its own is fine but then you have to kind of shove the shim in behind and wedge it against the blade spline. Removing it was even more of a pain.
I really don't like the backwards opening it seems all wrong to me; the clamping end is at the spine of the blade?
So how did it shave? Again, unimpressed. The blade seemed to skip across my face rather than glide... I gave up after one pass and finished off with a DE.
So in sum... I'm predicting my technique is way off. The 1912 is said to be more forgiving than the other 2 and I believe I must have been spoiled by the ease of its use. I'm not giving up on the 1914 or 1924 just yet, but if the 1912 really is that easy to use why would I want/need to use anything else?

Its funny how much YMMV comes into things. Tried a shim on my 1912 for the first time and TBH ( sorry for the blasphemy ) but found it very disappointing. But as I've said before I seem to be weird because there's all these raving reviews about stuff - but the gear that SUITS ME is always non descript and hardly ever mentioned.

The English made 1912 is just about as Aggressive as the 1924 & 1914..The USA made 1912s are a Lot Milder than the English Ones..Most Folks in USA Forums wouldn't know that..o_O

The Shim will Load easier if you use a bit of Vaseline or Something to Seat it onto the Gem Blade..The 1914 can be a Bugger to Load with the Shim..The 1924 & 1914 are more Angle Sensitive than a 1912 for Sure..In particular the 1914..A lot of Folks Cant use it..:D

I certainly couldn't cope with the 1914

Right, I'm done with these now.
Thanks for the opportunity to satisfy my curiosity. I've not changed my mind; for me, the 1912 wins every time.
I believe I was last on the list, so unless there are any new takers I guess these are going back home.
Please PM an address.
Thanks again...

Hi guys, just spoken to Alan on PM about this so please add me to the list for sure. Completely new to the SE world as well so would love to give these a go after Alan's assurances that they won't be too aggressive for a newbie... no pressure [emoji18]

The razors are with me, boxed up and ready to post. PM your address and I'll post them to you. You are next on the list since the previous guy has withdrawn.
