Shaved on Christmas Day with my first ever New Forest brush which is still going strong. Is it really all those years ago when I joined this forum? It’s great to see it is still going strong. New names, new brands, always changing. May it be ever thus. Have a great year ahead everyone.

I still grate my Palmolive and Arko sticks. My stock will last for years - well after I'm gone. Which reminds me I must draft a note for Mrs F to give all my remaining shaving stuff to members here!

It works best for me to grate sufficient to cover the surface. And no wobbly puck!

After many years of creating lather I have moved on to the easiest method for me. I grate hard soap into the bottom of my shaving bowl. I fill it with water then empty it out. I soak my brush, shake out the water then whip the lather up in the bowl and gently paint it on. Hardly revolutionary...

Looking through this thread I saw that our OP had found and used a brush he loved. I would have said to him: "great, be happy and move on and save yourself a lot of money" Too late! I hope he now enjoys the journey.

I’d send that photo to Simpsons and ask for their observations on what’s causing it to look like that.

I just meant that if the hairs are still not back to normal just do the same thing again. And try combing too as suggested above.

After drying a brush on a towel just flick your fingers across the top of the brush. It just resets the shape of the hairs. It’s something most people do instinctively.

Give it a bit longer. After drying it on your towel flick your fingers across and when it’s dry do that again. I get the odd synthetic look like that and it soon returns to normal. If it doesn’t send a pic to Simpsons. I doubt you will notice a difference in performance.

My knowledge of synthetics is limited to recent acquisitions of Simpsons T2 and T3. And two Yaqi tuxedo brushes. All are excellent. I actually prefer the tuxedo knots. Enough backbone and luxuriously soft.
