Happy Christmas from the New Forest

Shaved on Christmas Day with my first ever New Forest brush which is still going strong. Is it really all those years ago when I joined this forum? It’s great to see it is still going strong. New names, new brands, always changing. May it be ever thus. Have a great year ahead everyone.

    Creating lather.

I still grate my Palmolive and Arko sticks. My stock will last for years - well after I'm gone. Which reminds me I must draft a note for Mrs F to give all my remaining shaving stuff to members here!

    Creating lather.

It works best for me to grate sufficient to cover the surface. And no wobbly puck!

    Creating lather.

After many years of creating lather I have moved on to the easiest method for me. I grate hard soap into the bottom of my shaving bowl. I fill it with water then empty it out. I soak my brush, shake out the water then whip the lather up in the bowl and gently paint it on. Hardly revolutionary...

newbie to shaving brushes, need help please

Looking through this thread I saw that our OP had found and used a brush he loved. I would have said to him: "great, be happy and move on and save yourself a lot of money" Too late! I hope he now enjoys the journey.

What is the best cartridge/disposable razor system of all time?

After regularly nicking myself after several years of untroubled use of my old Gillette Tech I went back to a Mach 3 a few months ago. Perhaps it was my ageing skin that was the problem. Smooth shaves, no nicks, very content. And the badger brushes are taking a well earned rest while my love...

    High Mountain Badger

A chinchilla's fur is considered the softest in the world: 30 times softer than human hair! This medium-sized rodent also evolved its fluffy fur to live in a harsh climate, this time the cold heights of the Andean mountains of western Chile. So is it not possible that badgers in the high cold...

    Best Synthetic Knot?

This thread began with: ”Hi guys, Just wondering what the best synthetic knot is at the moment. I currently have a tuxedo knot and love it.” If you mainly bowl lather It’s hard to imagine you will find anything better than the tuxedo regardless of the price. I now have several Yaqi brushes with...

    High Mountain Badger

What do you want to know? This is a typical description: the hair from the badgers found in the high mountains of China. High Mountain White badger hair is characterized by long white tips and a thick middle band. This hair offers the ultimate shaving experience with excellent water retention...

    Is this a defect?

I’d send that photo to Simpsons and ask for their observations on what’s causing it to look like that.

    Is this a defect?

I just meant that if the hairs are still not back to normal just do the same thing again. And try combing too as suggested above.

    Is this a defect?

After drying a brush on a towel just flick your fingers across the top of the brush. It just resets the shape of the hairs. It’s something most people do instinctively.

    Is this a defect?

Give it a bit longer. After drying it on your towel flick your fingers across and when it’s dry do that again. I get the odd synthetic look like that and it soon returns to normal. If it doesn’t send a pic to Simpsons. I doubt you will notice a difference in performance.

Why Have More Than One ?

I have been away for a few days. For a change, I took a Mach 3 and a travel can of shaving gel. Not keen on the messiness of applying the gel but had great shaves with the Mach 3. Back home I have used my brush and shaving soap and have continued with the Mach 3. I have the odd tiny mole which...

    Synthetic Knot Help

My knowledge of synthetics is limited to recent acquisitions of Simpsons T2 and T3. And two Yaqi tuxedo brushes. All are excellent. I actually prefer the tuxedo knots. Enough backbone and luxuriously soft.
