    Yellow Lake Finishing Stone

I'm a convert!:p My red label Yellow lake hone arrived yesterday so i obviously had to try it out, it didn't take to long to lap to 1000 grit on some wet and dry as it wasn't in too bad a shape to start with. I had a razor that was close to needing a touch up, a 5/8ths O.G. &Co. Elmo, but i...

Straight Razor Shave of the Day

Is that Golden Dispatch? I've honed a couple of Peter Ludwig Schmidt's, they've taken really good edges, lovely shavers too.

    Yellow Lake Finishing Stone

I just pulled the trigger on one of these from e bay, it looks as though the cat is out of the bag with regards to the red boxed ones now, with some of the stones being priced north of £40, the yellow boxed ones are still going cheaper though.

    Traditional Soap

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see if @Sabre manages to secure a bulk buy of soap. I'm a complete convert to soap for shower use all though these days i've started to make my own, with my current favorite formulation being 45% tallow, 40% coconut oil, 10% olive oil and 5% castor oil...

Can a straight razor be too sharp ?

Another "No" from me, SR's can be sharp and not smooth though which could be interpreted as too sharp perhaps.

The Invisible edge Chinese 12K natural stone (Cnat)

Had a second shave with the test razor this morning and before use i stropped it on CroOx for 15 laps and then FerOx for 20 laps then leather for 70 laps, the result was excellent, smooth and sharp and a sublime shave.

The Invisible edge Chinese 12K natural stone (Cnat)

Honestly i think you could soak this for a month and it wouldn't absorb more than a teaspoon, whilst they may be listing it as a waterstone it is in reality a lump of rock that isn't porous. This quoted from Neil Miller's excellent article that is stickied in the straight razor sub forum: "For...

    Help needed regarding honing

+1 for pasted strops, i find they really help to finish an edge. That said personally i'd add a couple of dozen laps on 1 micron lapping film between the 16K and CroOx, it's cheap to try as well, about £3 a sheet that can be cut into 3 or 4. I have found that with advice on honing there is a...
