    Why a £200 razor?

Interesting........ I put a strong magnet up against my Muhle R89 recently, it is mildly magnetic, much like some of the low grade stainless steels are but definitely chrome plated and heavy. I have not come across any metals named or nick-named 'zamak' before? I made a 316 stainless steel...

What am I doing wrong - Voskhod blades

I so far have Personna blades in a ten pack, bought with my Muhle R89. Since then I have some Derby blades, sent as a freebie plus 5 Astra blades. I definitely like the Personna and Astra's, about to try the Derby's on my next shave :)

    Shaving creams and hard water?

I did mention lathering with either mineral or RO (reverse osmosis) water to Dr Shave at Executive Shaving in an e-mail reply to my review but he advised "no, thats an expensive option" and advised I persevere with more time spent bowl lathering and a drop more water. I have now since done this...

    It's a shame it isn't a DE...

Its strange but the preparation for a shave is a big part of it.... As mentioned in my first post, I have been using cartridge razors. For the last couple of years, a Sainsbury's own branded one with their own heads. I took a Cornerstone subscription out recently. They sent me their razor + four...

Unearthed a Rolls razor from my cupboard!

It was odd, I was looking through the cupboard as I have an old shoe box with some tools in it, until very recently I had no real idea what it was! I had seen Rolls razors mentioned on this forum when browsing and Googled them, the search brought me back to this site and fergiebilly, I suspected...

    Shaving creams and hard water?

I tried a drop of bottled water, just as an experiment. It was bottled water and so called mineral water at that. I can test water for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites etc, also the PH from my fish keeping kit but it does not test water hardness. The cream did seem to lather easier though :)

Unearthed a Rolls razor from my cupboard!

Well, the blade has been sent to the Republic of Scotland and I've done a bit of "TLC" on the hone and stropping leather.....I have had a go at sanding the hone, firstly with P180 and then P320 wet 'n dry, it is resilient, a bit like sanding silicon carbide or aluminium oxide. Is olive oil...
