which de razor should i get from these ones?

I’ve recently returned to DE’s after around 7 years using only straights, it’s sort of a u-turn, going from cartridge to DE to Straights and back. I’ve owned the Jagger 89, and the Muhle 89, a Parker 96 (appalling razor), the Merkur Slant, and the Razorock Black Hawk. My current favourite and...

Razorock Black Hawk V2 with Proline blades

I have a brand new Hawk V2 for sale, just purchased from Connaught Shaving, in original box, with a pack of Schick P30 blades. Selling because I just cannot get a shave without irritating my neck. I have a Rockwell that I bought at the same time and love using, so don't see this getting a look...

    Rockwell 6c

Also the Rockwell blades are actually surprisingly good, my favourite set up right now is the Rockwell with a 4 plate, TOBS Cedarwood and the Rockwell blade.

    Rockwell 6c

I would recommend the Rockwell, a great shaver, just a pleasure to use.

    Synthetic Brush recommendations

I have been quietly impressed with the Rockwell brush, early days but whips up a nice leather with TOBS Cedarwood.

    Rockwell 6C plate advice.

I have a DE87, Hawk V2 and a Rockwell 6C. I'd say 3 was nearest. I find (personally) the Rockwell is a far better shaver than the 89, there is no overhang of blades and it is better weighted. It's a great razor all round, I was sceptical about multi plate concept at first, thinking it gimmicky...

    Ow ow f**k f**k ow!

I use Friendly Soap shampoo and it's great, the best shampoo bar out there, I switched to bars about the same time as I ditched cartridges (about 5 years ago) in an effort to reduce plastic waste and being ripped off by the marketing men. However, Friendly Shaving Soap is sh't, there is no other...

Best Wet Shaving Bargains In The UK?

Weleda AS balm, not cheap at £14/100ml, but performance is amazing, immediately eases burn and a little goes a very long way, I find good value against Proraso AS balm, which I always used before.

    Wilkinson Sword Classic Review

Is it a milder type of shave?

    RazoRock ECO razor

I love my Hawk though, despite the fact it is still giving me some burn and a few weepers right now! I'm putting this down to the transition from a straight to an SE.

    RazoRock ECO razor

Having just bought the Hawk V 2 seeing this did raise an eyebrow. I guess if DE blades are cheaper? That would be a plus, also this will be less wide so some might find it easier perhaps. But the universality of the DE blade will be the main SP of this over a Hawk I imagine.

    Kairn Razor

I think I'll buy one for the better half, I was going to get her the Wilkinson Sword Classic, at £14 a bargain, the Kairn looks a bit classier though.

    Occams Razor

Interested to know if you bought one, FWIW I just shaved with my new Hawk V2 (with Schick P30) tonight, I was very impressed; far more efficient than my EJ DE87, no pressure required. I reckon this will be my daily shaver for a while to come.

    Over stropped?

Possibly you are making too many passes without lather, so you wipe the lather off with first pass, then go back over repeatedly whilst you are cleaning up whiskers, also your angle may be off slightly and you may be scraping as opposed to cutting whiskers. There is a natural tendency with all...

    Advice for a new buyer

One more thing! Selection of soaps with straights I reckon are more important, as is good prep generally I guess. I found a good hard tallow based soap like Tabac or Mitchell's superior in terms of cushioning than products such as Proraso etc. But you need a good stiff brush for these...

    Advice for a new buyer

Westholme strops are great, I have one also and for the money nothing else comes close in terms of value and quality.

    Advice for a new buyer

I've been shaving with straights exclusively for almost two years now and would never go back. I even have a ‘travel' set up for when I'm away from home. I found progressing from DE's to straights fairly straightforward, but I did my research and read the help available online and in forums...
