Also the Rockwell blades are actually surprisingly good, my favourite set up right now is the Rockwell with a 4 plate, TOBS Cedarwood and the Rockwell blade.

I would recommend the Rockwell, a great shaver, just a pleasure to use.

I have been quietly impressed with the Rockwell brush, early days but whips up a nice leather with TOBS Cedarwood.

Weleda AS balm, not cheap at £14/100ml, but performance is amazing, immediately eases burn and a little goes a very long way, I find good value against Proraso AS balm, which I always used before.

Is it a milder type of shave?

I love my Hawk though, despite the fact it is still giving me some burn and a few weepers right now! I'm putting this down to the transition from a straight to an SE.

Having just bought the Hawk V 2 seeing this did raise an eyebrow. I guess if DE blades are cheaper? That would be a plus, also this will be less wide so some might find it easier perhaps. But the universality of the DE blade will be the main SP of this over a Hawk I imagine.

I think I'll buy one for the better half, I was going to get her the Wilkinson Sword Classic, at £14 a bargain, the Kairn looks a bit classier though.

Interested to know if you bought one, FWIW I just shaved with my new Hawk V2 (with Schick P30) tonight, I was very impressed; far more efficient than my EJ DE87, no pressure required. I reckon this will be my daily shaver for a while to come.

One more thing! Selection of soaps with straights I reckon are more important, as is good prep generally I guess. I found a good hard tallow based soap like Tabac or Mitchell's superior in terms of cushioning than products such as Proraso etc. But you need a good stiff brush for these...
