Viking Shave Soap

I recently fanagled three very generous samples of this Midwestern USA artisan shave soap. I had been reading incredible reviews of this soap and wanted to try it. The owner seems to be smarter than the average bear in that he works in the agricultural dept. of a large university and I assume he has some chemistry background. He shows on his website how he renders his own tallow:

...beef suet (fat surrounding the kidney area – the best for tallow) to render tallow with.

I received three samples, Fjord, Norse and Ironside respectively. These are all medium strength scents and IMO very manly, for lack of a better word.

As regards performance, utterly outstanding!! It's a white colored soap that has the same consistency as Arko in its dry state, to use a benchmark here. From the moment the loaded brush hits your face you know this is top shelf stuff. Oodles of creamy, gooey tallow richness!! It's at least as good as Cella to give you another point to gauge from (but w/o that sickeningly sweet marzipan scent). It ticks all the boxes for glide, cushion, etc.

This is easily in the top tier of U.S. artisan soaps along with Stirling, CRSW & Mike's. Do you need it? Well, that's entirely subjective because if we based all soap purchases on need we'd all be using Palmolive shave sticks. ;) A good way to try a larger variety of artisan shave soaps w/o breaking the bank is to buy samples. After all, who enjoys using the same soap every day?
