It does have benefits when using different blades or having to dial down for sensitive areas. However I am doubtful if changing the aggressiveness during the shave has significant benefit.The novelty of an adjustable razor quickly fades for some. It certainly did for me.
Perhaps there are compromises entailed in the Gillette design. For me being unable to get a five star shave at any setting cancels out the benefit of getting a three or four star shave at nine settings.It does have benefits when using different blades or having to dial down for sensitive areas.
