Closed Pass Around: ***Ended*** Schick Krona TTO ***Ended***

Day 4 - Shave 3

  • De Vergulde Hand shaving soap
  • TOST LE 2018 brush
  • Schick Krona
  • Feather blade (1)
  • Alum block
  • Hagner Tobacco ASL

I wanted to try the Schick Krona with a Feather blade. It took me while to find what I now believe is my last Feather blade. I won't buy any more, but only for the reason that I mostly shave with SE razors and I have hundreds of DE blades left - mostly Voskhod and PolSilver. Once I'm down to less than 100 DE blades - some time in the mid to late 2020s - I would buy Feather blades again. Maybe I'll buy 10 for pass arounds.
Today's shave - no need to go into too much detail - was really quite good. The Schick Krona is a great razor for Feather blades. Two days worth of stubble were removed with the utmost efficiency, while the razor glided across my face smoothly and with ease.
At no time did I fear that the Krona/Feather combo would nick me and sure enough they didn't. It was a truly wonderful shave - full on BBS, no irritation.
I like this razor. Another shave with my last Feather blade and I might be able to let go.

Must say I never attempted a Feather in the Krona, this blade was consistently rough for me in other razors.

I do not have any more as I passed it over to someone here, however I might order a tuck to see how these two play together.

The problem I have with Feathers is that they start out really good, then mid 2nd or 3rd shave they suddenly turn rough and dull. As I have far too many DE blades I don't care if I use a blade only once. I prefer PolSilvers or Voskhods but I like trying a Feather in a new razor. I'm still in two minds if I should buy a few more or not. They are not exactly value for money. I still have well over 200 DE blades and last year I used about 15, so maybe buying more is not a good idea.

200 guys have just had heart attacks, that you could even have suggested restraint around these parts!! :)

Can you pop me on the list as well please?

Cheers, John
My supply of various SE blades is a bit more generous and I get way more shaves out of each of them. I guess I have blades for the next 15 years. I might still buy a few hundred more GEM blades just in case they stop making them.
You're on the list and your SIM PIF is in the post.

A mini revelation, just when you think it can't get any better with the Krona I took your advice about a Feather blade kindly donated by Paul aka Blademonkey .
What a sublime shave! Two days now and must I say this blade is probably the best blade I used in the Krona. Its a crap rough thing in anything else I ever used it but in Krona its precision and smoothnrss masterpiece. Give it a try.

The dethroned GSB is crying to his lather bowl in the corner.

I had some more shaves with the Schick Krona, the above mentioned Feather and a Voskhod blade.
All were extremely good shaves. The Schick Krona looks good, handles well, it's TTO (which is cool - I'm easy to please) and gives great shaves.
It's a razor I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a classy razor that won't break the
bank - with a bit of luck and patience you could pick one up for 20 quid.
The razor is now on its way to @Glen_Lee .

My first shaving experience with the Krona. Firstly, I was surprised by the weight and how solid a razor it is. I always assumed from looking at the photogrpahs, that it was more plastic in nature. Paired with a Polsilver on it's second use, Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood cream - I went for it.

Having only used a Schick Type E injector, and lately a Gillette Tech for the last 12-18 months; it took a little while to get used to the size and weight of the razor. However, it is a lovely shave. Nice & smooth. Looks great. The handle & grip is particularly good. Never used a TTO before, so 10/10 for novelty value ;) Over the next few days, going to try different blades to enjoy any variation in shaves.

Used my Krona, today. A lot of razors have come and gone but the Krona forever has a place.

Pretty much exclusively use a straight now from starting out with DE.

The only DE razors that get a look-in now are my Timeless, FatBoy, Krona & Eclipse red-ring.

The Krona is a great shave, deceptively efficient. I tend to pair with GSB or Polsilver.
It's a bit like the red-ring, totally fuss free, rinse after the 1st pass & TBH you could stop there.

Thank you to @Steve Bowles & @riverrun for this pass around. The Krona is boxed and ready for the next shaver.

I've enjoyed using the Krona. Having tried Polsiver & Astra blades - for me, I enjoyed the shaves more when paired with the Astra.

Fantastic form factor, and certainly a razor I've hoped to try for a long while. For some reason I had difficulty manoeuvring the head/getting the right asngle. With a bit more practice, probably would have been absolutely fine.

Lovely razor, and I would recommend anyone considering this razor to join the list!

I hauled a Krona out today, and used it with a green Astra Platinum.

I've always thought it was very under-rated, and it never ceases to surprise and please me when I use it.

A good thing that, a few years ago, I decided to try to collect all the variations, so I now have a modest selection to choose from. As far as I can judge, the differences are mostly in looks i.e. inscriptions, colours, etc., and they all shave about the same (depending, of course, on the blade used).
