Palmolive Classic

I've been using Palmolive classic cream since forever I rarely use anything else. I only use the sticks when away from home.

I rattled around the back of the cupboard this morning and found my Italian version Palmolive classic cream. I bought it a year ago, and thought, "ho hum".

12 months more experience and a synthetic brush really changed my view of this cream. You need to be careful not to overwater it (it can collapse into soapy suds), but it really does a stirling job. And smells slightly fresher and brighter than the stick.

Ridiculous value. There's a certain irony that many of us (me included) spend so much on soaps given the performance that can be found for pittance. That said, I get a little dash of pleasure every morning from deciding which combination of brush, razor and soap/cream I put to use.

How does one tell its the Italian version? Is it marked made in Italy, or is it not that straightforward?

In this case it was straightforward, as I bought it in Italy. However, it has a red tube rather than the more familiar olive green version.

It looks like this.

Interesting
I've checked the box and tube of my UK Palmolive cream and can't find a place of manufacture. Palmolive (www.palmolive.eu.com) have different sections of their website for each country. The colour and design of the tube and box varies from country to country.
I've emailed Palmolive (UK) asking them where the two creams are made and if they are made to different recipes.

I emailed and received the following prompt reply
The green tube is a "refreshing" version, due to the mint extract present in the cream. On the other hand the red tube is the classic version, with extract of Aloe Vera which is providing more hydration and softness to the skin. Both creams are made in Italy.
This is interesting, however the box that my "green" classic came in clearly states "with Palm Extract" on the side, Not Mint Extract. I feel another email coming on!

There are two versions: The "Classic" with Palm Extract and a mentholated one with Mint.

The minty one is made in Italy and called "Rinfrescante al Mentolo" ("Refreshing with Menthol"), and it seems to be exclusive to Italy. In other countries, where you only get the Classic version in stores, the colour of the Classic tube varies; in Italy it's red (but I'm not sure if it always used to be, I suppose it's to make it easier to differentiate the two), in India it's also red, in the UK and Germany it's green.

Now that I re read the email from Colegate (who own Palmolive) I see it's signed by a man with a very Italian name. Perhaps they think I live in Italy?
I may see if I can get hold of some of the menthol stuff, though I'm not sure how yet.

The plot thickens! I emailed Palmolive (Colgate) back reminding them that I lived in The UK. I got a phone call this morning from their customer service dept. A very nice man (with an Italian accent) explained to me that he had been confused and given me incomplete information. The only cream available in the UK is in a green tube and contains palm extract. In Italy the same cream comes in a red tube. The Italians also have a green tube it has mint extract in it. A further variation exists a light green tube with cream containing aloe vera extract, but this is only available in Germany. All three are made in Italy.
I've found the Mint version on ebay but at £6.28 is slightly more than three times the price of the "UK" cream.the Germany Aloe Vera version is also there and at £3.92 isn't quite as bad.

Today I had a phone call from Colgate here in Germany, too. They told me that this four sorts of Palmolive shaving creams in tubes are made in Italy.

Vintage Palmolive shaving soap stick. It looks so pretty in contrast to todays poor design.
