After Shave Advice

I've always been disappointed in the range of splashes available in the shops over here. Old Spice and Brut seem to be about it (I haven't seen Blue Stratos or Denim for many years) plus I'm not keen on the scent of any of them. It's usually a case of searching for an import on the internet or buying a more expensive Jermyn Street offering.

I remember a few years ago, one of our French based members organised a group buy and I got Aqua Velva, Savane, Green Tonic, Skin Bracer and Mennen Blue. All of them fantastic and available at his local supermarket.

Aqua Velva AS Group buy. (CLOSED)

Hi all.
5 months in to my first time DE shaving life (shameful at 53, I know) and I'm loving it.
A couple of videos were very useful early on in helping me with my technique, but both stated that alcohol based after shave should not go anywhere near a freshly shaved face. But I have noticed in the SOTD forum that a lot of you guys love a splash after a shave. And I must admit that I liked a little 'sting' in the past. What is the general thinking here? And would a splash follow some balm?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Barry

Well, I started when I was almost 50.... It's never too late!!!

In my previous and obscure "cartridge days", I had sensitive skin, suffered from nicks, cuts and whatnot and sported sad irritation patches especially on my neck... I used balms, many balms, lots of balms...

Now, in this bright DE era, I like to shave with my Gillette Single Rings with a Feather in, with reckless abandon and I use alcohol based aftershaves, the more alcohol, the better! And my skin is, well, perfect!!!

Obviously, do whatever works for you. Good luck!

Hi Juan. Thanks for that. And I couldn't agree more about how good DE shaving is for the skin. I thought I had sensitive skin, but apart from the odd nick in my early efforts with a safety razor, my skin has never felt better!
