What made your day a crap one??

A pack sounds GR8 ! I usually meet up with the dog walker most weekdays anyway so Lola's used to running in a pack of 6 or 7 socially minded furries. And, of course, when I'm Bmonkey's guest she can have fun with his Border Terrorist. Just thinking about it is cheering me up already, so maybe I should be moving these posts to ' what made my day a better one, though not quite a goodly one ' !

Whilst filling up at the petrol station on my way to work, some jumped-up so-and-so decided it was a great idea to use his phone while filling up their work's van. I whistled across and told him he shouldn't be using it, to which he replied 'I know', paused for a second, then quickly followed it up with 'what's it to do with you?'. I told him that there's a sign there telling him specifically to not use it and that if the petrol station goes up in flames it has everything to do with me, and everyone else there. He asked, less than calmly;

"What are you, the f*'ing police or something?"

I replied that no, I wasn't, but that I'd happily inform them should he please. He told me to... 'go elsewhere'. At this point I was at my wick's end and told him to grow up, the 'something something' (mild expletives). He then asked what I'd called him, so I repeated it, at which point he was nose-to-nose with me. Now, considering I'm a sleight, young-looking, 20-something year old, and he was (guessing) mid 40's, I thought he'd have something better to do than to shout at me that he'd 'fill me in' and suchlike. I stood my ground and told him he was welcome to try, one hand on my petrol nozzle (no euphemism intended), one in my jacket pocket, at which point he backed off.

Very generously, a young (late 20's/early 30's) man, built like a brick sh*t house, decided to step in and told him that he'd fill the phone-user himself. I pulled away the generous helper and told him that it wasn't worth the effort. They shared some expletives and went their separate ways.

I know full-well that the evidence supporting mobile phone use around petrol fumes is relatively limited and, often, inconclusive. I also know, first-hand, the effects of being involved in a explosion and wouldn't wish it on anyone, let alone innocent bystanders in a 20-odd point petrol station. I think that's why I was so quick to jump down his throat, as it were.

Well done, we don't like a lot of them but rules are rules, too many people stand by and do or say nothing these days.

I couldn't have let that one go - strangely it's my second run-in with incorrect phone-uses in the last two months or so. One was a driver, the other was today's offender.

I wasn't entirely sure whether I was in the wrong. I know I was right to tell them to stop but I may have taken things a bit far. That being said, I don't regret my actions. There's just no getting through to some people. I wonder whether they feel emasculated by a young gent telling them what to do?

At the end of the day, the risk to life because of one person's stupid actions this morning was positively monumental.

As a 'yoof' myself, I understand!
It was ambiguous,....I meant it as the yoof use it, meaning "all kicked off",
....I was afraid of being misinterpreted as one who thinks that using a mobile phone at a petrol station will actually cause an explosion.
You yoof-ful go-getter, you! Unfortunately, there is a possibility (albeit small) that it could! I'm not keen to take that risk, to be frank. Sorry for my serious response! :D

This escalated rather quickly.
I'd rather back off this subject than explain my rather unsuccessful attempt at humour, I do, after all, have a "knot" to break in.
I think it's just the lack of intonation as a result of being via interwebs. Don't take it to heart, Mr Toff. I didn't want to escalate it but had to get my point across!

Let's leave this topic at that. :)

On another note, enjoy breaking in your knot! :D

Good start to the day... manager (who notoriously does not pull their weight) claims that a couple of staff members noted I do not write my clock in and clock out times accurately enough, and that I should exercise time-keeping better. I often have to travel for work, have phone calls from the time I wake up and stay behind to finish work when required... I guess production staff don't see that side of it.

That's not to say I'm late, but that I round up to the nearest 5 minutes, which is apparently unacceptable. For reference, clock in/out time-keeping was introduced for hourly-rate staff, of which I am not.

*sigh* unfortunately, there's just no pleasing everyone.

Got in the car to head to work only to find some b*stard had removed my wing mirror with their foot. Driver's side so not legal to drive. Wing mirror found behind a lamppost nearby but wiring looks pretty ruined, and fixings have snapped. Will probably need an entirely new unit.

When will my string of bad luck end, aye?
