Calling All ‘Fat’ Fans…

What do I do with three duff cakes? They’re not likely to take them back are they?

Personally, I feel they should be replaced by either Kent or MWF and unless they do so. I’m done with them forever.

I started this thread as a celebration of what I formerly considered to be one of the best shaving soaps regardless of price and certainly the best value considering how hard it is to finish a cake. It just lasts and lasts.

Fat no more?
Send them back, not fit for purpose.

Paul.

Given how pot-luck it's been of late, once my current puck and my reserve (good) puck have been depleted I'll be thinking twice about buying more. I've probably got enough soap to last me the rest of my days and much of it is vintage anyway, which I really should enjoy more frequently. Perhaps I should look on my MWF as vintage as guaranteed repeat buying is ... well, not guaranteed.

Shame, as it really is like no other ...

Twelve continuous days and my face has not felt this good since I started traditional shaving when I used it practically daily.

I think buying it from someone like Paul at Connaught could make sense, maybe he would get back to Mitchell's if their QC isn't up to it?

He has replied on the matter before and I'm pretty sure his reply was along the lines that Mitchell's make such vast quantities, even his voice would be a whisper.

Here's a goofy thought ...

We don't actually know where or who makes the shaving soap. It's not certain that the product is made even by one specific manufacturer. What if these dud batches are from the same folks that make Trumpers. The resulting soap is much the same ... massively overly foaming with little ability to load, smudges around the face when lathering and when something approacing a lather finally does make itself present, it collapses and dissipates. Setting the brush aside, within a mere couple of minutes it seems enturely clear of soap! Very similar behaviour!?

Frustratingly, we don't have a whole heap of evidence to put to Mitchell's ... even we only have a handful of batch numbers identified and even then only two are noted as dud. How many per batch? 1000? 10000? Dunno. From the list that we have, from 2020 to present day the batch numbering has increased by almost 1000. Even at 1000 per batch, that's a million pucks put out and only a few from just two batches found to be duds.

I know from industrial food production, batch numbers would increment per order and tens of thousands of product items would be produced per batch making many thousands of packed boxes of product. Each batch was mixed over one side of the factory and then dropped onto the packing lines on the other side. Scores of hoppers per order each producing thousands of bags of product.

Again, from industrial food production, when mixing in tonnes even with a known-good length of time to blend the ingredients the number of returns with clumps and lumps and poorly distributed product was frequent. It could easily be that a badly mixed portion when dropped out into puck moulds that several hundred could be of a bad constitution. It's not certain that whole batches are all duds, but see my first point.

I used one of those CAKES today as I mentioned earlier in the thread. Should I now try the other CAKES of Kent Wool Fat? Life’s too damn short as is my patience with this tomfoolery. I’m pucking off for a nice CAKE.
Apologies ... I missed that detail. Confirmed dud, yes? I'll update the Virginia Woolfat list.

For those who are a bit wary of getting new supplies of the Fat, I'd recommend holding on for now.

If you do want to get a new ahem 'cake' of the Fat, I'd say wait until the Black Friday sales. During those it's less than a fiver for one shipped, so even if it is a dud it's not too much of a loss.
