SOTD : Saturday 21th March to Friday 27th March 2021

Yep, I had a just under 100 DE ones a few yrs. back and sold them for a song. Why you ask? Well, as I stated earlier in this SOTD thread they have great longevity, but the actual shave is not light years ahead of anything today. That goes for "Spoilers" as well. I had over two hundred of those also and sold when the market was high. I think the best blades of today are just as good if not better. YMMV.

P.S. I had a Personna 74 DE blade left over and I recently sent it over to the Emporium as tribute to the Lord of the Manor, i.e., Boycie.

Thanks for the reply and the info BM, part of my reason for asking was curiousity more than anything else. Good to hear you made a tidy sum selling your stocks of unobtanium blades!

The sacrificial offering of your final P74 to the Emporium will ensure health, wisdom, regular bowels and access to European soap which you may not have been able to access otherwise.

If there's anything we need, it's more shaving soap.

Seriously, I have enough shaving soap to shave the hairy backs of the entire platoon of Orcs from the final battle in Lord of the Rings.

French Pink Clay & Charcoal Face Soap
Potter & Moore Lavender Shaving Soap (Vintage)
Semogue SOC Taj (Boar)
Gillette Hybrid Tech
Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (3)
Witch Hazel & Prep Creme

Gah! Despite a valiant effort by the Hybrid, that was a rough shave ...

Not especially during the shave, which was at last smooth(er) but afterwards. I had to have a long soak with lashings of cold water, some Witch Hazel and a good dab of Prep Creme. That's from a single pass. The first and second shaves were both smooth enough from the off and the blade felt sharp, but part way through the shave it developed a psychotic characteristic, like it might bite me. My memories of this blade have been brought right back - I always found it a tad fierce and in my earlier days of shaving ended up with a good load of weepers. Not today, just irritable afterwards and each shave has given me irritable regrowth.

Versus the Indian Gillette 7 O'Clock PermaSharp which I rated to 8/10 placing it amongst the SuperMax Stainless blades that I've enjoyed recently or the ASCO Stainless, or even the Sputnik Stainless, I'm afraid the Russian variant gets a lower 6/10 peering it amongst the Big Ben Stainless and the Ladas & Rapira Stainless. That's my baseline for a workable blade, lower is an outright "no".

Lovely, though, to use a vintage soap ...

Potter & Moore Lavender has a feint lavender scent, classic soap smell and lathers up almost instantly into a thick, shiny foam on the soap and then joyfully builds up a strong and paintable lather on the face. Great cushion. I did say despite the best efforts of the classy Tech, it's also despite the good lather provided by this soap.

Hrmph! Onwards and upwards (I hope) ... to the Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge tomorrow; the yellow pack.

Soap - PAA Future Fiction 1st Use

Razor - Gillette Slim Adjustable #6

Blade - Super Gillette Blue #1

Alum Block

Balm - Cien Sensitive

Splash - Next

New soap and new blade. Lovely smell, texture and cushioning from the soap. Plenty of weepers so will try the blade in my Rockwell next time. The blues don’t seem to be as forgiving as the Perma Sharp, however the alum block sorted the weepers out. All a learning curve. Maybe the 6 setting was a bit ambitious for a new blade. Stay safe guys.

Wednesday 24th March

• Eau Sauvage Shaving Cream
• Yaqi Chianti 24mm Synthetic
• Timeless Bronze
• 3D Printed Bowl
• Gillette Platinum (2)
• Eau Sauvage Aftershave
• Eau Sauvage Extreme EdT

Full on Eau Sauvage shave tonight, having taken delivery of the shave cream today

The cream was whipped up to a luxurious creamy consistency very easily, and it quickly became apparent that an almond sized amount was way too much
Scent wise, it's very strong, and definitely a good match of the timeless scent we all know.
Performance was quite good, and post shave feel was better than most

Thanks to Steve, @fly3k

I broke out a NOS Personna 74 injector blade today to use in the Schick I2 on a four day beard. Despite all the myth surrounding this legendary blade I can't really tell any difference between it and a modern Personna injector blade. Sure, it may go for an ungodly amount of shaves, but to me that's inconsequential as modern injector blades are relatively cheap and can go 15 - 20 shaves for many shavers. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
That's an interesting conclusion. They may not be the holy grail they're quoted to be. I also find the modern Personna very efficient and relatively cheap.

Chris @Boycie83 .......how did you find the Fatip. I have never tied the Gentile version
Hi Brian. It felt incredibly nimble after using the Tradere. I had the original Gentile but moved it on as it wasn't efficient enough for me (more likely that I didn't allow enough time to get to know it). Two passes with this was an improvement over the standard Gentile but I'm still a bit patchy in a couple of places. I'll see how I get on with it.

Finish is good for a razor of this price. There's a bit of sharpness in places on the handle where the features change but the blade alignment appears to be fine with no adjustment required.

Thu 25th SOTD
Soap Phoenix & Beau Imperial Rum
Brush Yaqi 24mm Mountain Lake Badger
Razor Pearl OC on Yaqi Handle
Blade Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless 4th
Post & Aftershaves Ice Water + Thayers + Hyaluronic + Clubman Gents Gin
A very nice and mild scent from the soap. Performance was just acceptable.
Shave with long-ignored razor paired with the blade was very good (better than the FOC). Sharpish, smooth, comfortable, and quite efficient for a 3pass mostly bbs result. Excellent aftershave.
