Sotd - 23/4/07

Razor - Cobra Classic
Blade - Feather Pro Super (2)
Brush - Chubby 2 - best
Soap - RazoRock Puros
Post - Allum and Witch Hazel
A/S - Extro - Tabacco
Balm - Vifrex gel.

Result - claret was spilled. Not in the obvious way but I took the head off a spot I hadn't seen through my four-day beard. A spot? Are you serious? I'm nearly 50. What's that about? That not withstanding - a superb shave. I'm still in deep smit after re-discovering my Cobra. What a great razor. If you haven't held one in your hand it's difficult to describe it adequately. Because it uses the Feather blades - or indeed Kai - the cutting edge is huge compared to a DE razor. It's half way to a straight. Possibly why it is such a good shaver - less passes. It cuts more on every stroke. Let's face it - there is nothing natural about dragging surgically sharp steel across your face. The less passes the better. Ergonomically - it's superb. The handle is perfect - which is just as well - the slightest slip, you'll take your head off. Second use of the Razorock Puros - excellent tallow soap and nice fragrance. Followed with the Extro Tabacco. I like my scent themed shaves. Does anyone have any suggestions for a tobacco scented Edt or parfum? @flashashton27 - might you know? I

Monday's shave

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's Coal Tar Soap and The Gentleman's Groom Room Shave Prep Plus.
Razor - Hone 15.
Blade - Feather New Hi-Stainless (day 3).
Soap - Executive Shaving Bay Rum Shave Cream.
Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2 - Best Badger.
Post shave - D.R Harris Mild Skin Tonic, followed by L'Occtitane Cade Aftershave Balm.

Great shave, 2 passes with a small touch up needed on the chin. No issues. Skin still feeling good.

The Hone 15 for me and I appreciate that YMMV, has tamed the Feather. The Groom Room Shave Prep Plus also provides a comforting protective layer, which gives me some reassurance when shaving with a Feather.

Don't know why I feel nervous about shaving with a Feather, perhaps the hype? I shave frequently with a Gillette Silver Blue, almost without thinking about it :)

All the best,

Chris

Pre:
Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: P&C LE Platypus 2017
Soap: Lea Classic
Razor: ATT Kronos M2
Blade: Vintage Gillette Super Silver (4)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
Splash: Myrsol Blue

Lovely three pass shave. Lea Classic is underrated - a truly excellent soap.

When the sun goes down, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

What you said about the Lea Classic soap - they do three versions - the conventional tube, a soft soap in a tin and a hard puck. There is some slight variation in the formulations - between tallow and vegetarian - but I can't remember the exact differences at the moment. They perform brilliantly for me. A hefty kick of menthol. Dirt cheap if you buy them in Spain. The aftershave is great too. Highly recommended. I

I never did like the feather in anything but it's been a while now since I last used one so I may put one in my Hone 15 tomorrow and see how I get on with it. Wish me luck! :)

@flashashton27 - thank you mate - I knew you were the man to ask. You appear to keep an impressive scent library. Handily enough I will be traveling through a couple of airports in the near future and I will see if I can find anything you mentioned. Thanks again. I

Thank you Scotshave and Digimonkey , I will try an Astra or Wilkinson sword blade in the DE89 for my next shave.
I was hovering over the buy it now tab on some proraso pre shave on Saturday when I was distracted by the dog and it went out of my mind! I'll get some ordered ASAP.

@Paul L - pm me and I'll send you a few blades to try. Cheers - I

Congrats on a gorgeous razor.
Are these considered to be an aggressive, mid or mild razor?
Many thanks.

Razor: Razorock Hawk
Razor blade: Schick Proline (3)
Brush: shavemac snowman
Bowl: Little Wren Pottery
Cream: Trufitt & Hill Grafton
Post: Thayers witch hazel and British barber Association aftershave balm.

The Hawk is another razor on loan from @Acer89 . Thank you James.

As some of you may be aware, my last shave was pretty rough. I took a risk trying another new razor but you know I'm all about living on the edge.

Thankfully the risk paid off. I found The Hawk to be smooth and comfortable.

I preferred the slots to hold the blade in place compared to The General. Apart from that The General is superior in every other way.

The T&H Grafton was a pleasure to use and scent is shear class.

British Barber Association aftershave balm: First thing you notice is the colour, chocolate brown, which I really wasn't expecting.
The consistency is very thick and I had to use a lot more than I usually do compared to any other balm I've used before.
The face feel is OK but a little tacky. The scent is very nice, light and fresh. It also has a nice cooling effect which is still going strong 3 hours later.
I'll need to use it a few more times before I make up my mind.

Thanks again to James for loaning me The Hawk.

Cheers
Rob
