Can you choose just one SE razor?

Hi everyone!

In last few days i was thinking a lot about SE razor. For me it is terra incognita. And i want to start discovering this part of wetshaver world. But where to start? With 1912? Or maybe with some Schick injector razor? Well... So many great razors is out there and i dont know which one to choose...

If you need to choose just one SE razor for rest of your live, which one will be The One? And, of course, why?

It will be a new one or something vintage? Some classic SE or injector? Or... Well... You know it much better than me!

Injector Wise..My PAL Injectomaic Or Bunny Injector..Hard Choice on this One..:)

Since I have two, an Ever Ready Streamline. However I already know ( now ) that SEs suit me. If I'd never experienced one I'd go for a 1912 ( muffled snigger offstage from F/Billy ) as they are reasonably available at an affordable price. They'll give a good idea of the difference between SE & DE and you can be enjoying it whilst you consider which branch tunnel of the rabbit hole will be your next choice.

Hi @pj3r My first SE is an USA 1912 ER. It's a nice razor to use. My first shave gave me a raw post feel. This is due to the thicker blade. After a few shaves and using a good (tallow) soap that gives you good cushion and glide you will enjoy an ER. My next SE will be an ATT SE1.

The Heljestrand for me as well, even though I have always considered the OCMM to be the finest shaving safety razor made I would have to demote it to second place next to the Heljestrand but only by a very short head. I base this decision purely on overall quality of shave, I have disregarded the learning curve of blade preparation and maintenance.

If you subtract what for some will amount to 'too much faff' with wedge blades you are left with the OCMM.

There are plenty of other razors that I also love if I am allowed an honourable mention it would be for the Henckles Rapide.

Hi Loedse, I have never tried an SE but am curious. How does it differ from a DE besides the obvious?

If I compare the 1912 ER with the Muhle R89, SE blades are much thicker and stiffer than DE blades and this made the shaving experience different. That experience, for me, translates into a close, effortless shave with more shaves per blade than the average DE razor/blade combo. With my 1912 ER I can easily get 8-10 shaves per blade. Also the angle while shaving changed for me with an SE. With an DE most folks uses the 30 degree angle while shaving, but when shaving with the 1912 ER the angle was steeper for me. Hope this helps.

It Shaves as Well as any Modern Razor..Better than Most..It uses a Hollow Ground Blade..They come up on EBay but You have to Hunt them Down..They can Go for anything from 60 Quid to around 170 Quid Depending on Condition, Set & Who is Looking for One..See this Thread of Mine..:)
