Time to say goodbye

forums like these are in a state of constant evolution, sooner or later long serving members will find that their views are out of sync with the majority of the group, when that time arrives one must either modify their views or fade into the background.
bullying and forcing people out of a forum is totally wrong, but, so is having a cadre of senior members who's views are treated as if they were the word of god.

Not sure what has caused the problem, but is sad that any member feels aggrieved at the way posts get
misinterpreted/ hijacked. I only once made a comment about the benefits/or not of brushes and I was thoroughly
castigated for having a view. Nearly walked away then, but took a deep breath and am glad i did not.

Sorry UK Rob that you leaving, as obviously you contributed to the forum a lot, and helped folks out too if the comments
made here are anything to go by. If you do no reconsider- all the best for the future.

I recently put a joke in the jokes section. Now I'm fully aware that jokes are very subjective things. One mans meat is anothers poison and in todays politically correct world where everyone is a victim even more so. The subject in this case being Stephen Hawking. I knew it was near the knuckle but I put it on and the first reply was 'You deserve to cut yourself' Hmmmn....OK. a bit of a horrible thing to wish on someone I thought. The second or third was from UK Rob which was 'This is surely a candidate for removal' OK, there again straight to the point. I'm still here. The point I'm making is everything written on a forum is subjective and an opinion of the person writing the piece. You will always get people that click Like and folk that don't agree at all. No one can please everyone all the time. Sometimes you have to take a deep breath and just get on with it not take your bat and ball home.

I noticed that UKRob had a post moderated on a Cobra Razor related thread, I'd really like to know what the post was and why it was moderated because he seemed baffled by what had occurred.

Now, I don't necessarily want to cause any controversy, but yesterday I read the following post -

  • The general consensus was 'get fucked, you benders'

Bender is a term used to refer to a "Male homosexual". For anyone on the forum that might be homosexual, or might have a brother, son, friend etc that is homosexual, this to me would comes across as a very unpleasant thing to have to read here.
And please... don't give me the "pub banter" rubbish, because what's funny to a handful of people who "get it", just isn't funny to everyone.

Point being... the moderation is totally and utterly inconsistent, to the point where it's becoming a joke.

There's no denying that there are some delicate and unique little snowflakes out there who very well might be offended by something someone posts.

That's not my problem though, is it?

I think its impossible to manage several hundred egos. That said it's a gentleman's forum so some degree of professionalism needs to exist. Saying that with this in place, some complain of the forum becoming 'stale'.

Sometimes you just can't please everyone.

Hah, I have had artisans straight out lie to me, pulled my nose hair out for a HHT (thanks Rob) and bought a few items of members that went straight in the bin, some worth over a ton. But I guess being told what to say or do could become 'extra' given its just a lifestyle hobby.

What I will remember is Rob helped me get onto straight razors along with Jamie and I believe both have slowed down their participation or stopped. So where do you now go for straight razor info that is succinct.

Very sad to read this. Such a shame to think that this forum is maybe heading the same way as the US forums have.

A forum is only as good as the quality of it's information and the good folk who contribute to make it an enjoyable environment/experience for others. As far as I can see and read, Rob has been one of the major contributors to this forum, without him the forum loses a piece of that quality.

Moderators you must give reasons for deleting peoples posts and threads so that it can be dealt with in a respectful and mature manner, or you will find yourselves with a forum full of moderators only.

Rob if you decided to start your own forum do let me know the address, I would only be too please to support you. I dare say there would be a few folks here who would do the same.

Wishing you all the best
Darron :)

Sorry to see you go Rob. I'm not a straight razor user but Rob very kindly sent me a couple of Haljestrand wedge blades to try out on some late 19/early 20th French Hoe type razors around this time last year.

A fine example of of someone willing to share their knowledge and equipment for nothing other than the fact that it's a nice thing to do.
