Acquisitions 1st Mar - 31st Mar 2016

A 1917 Gillette single ring Old type.

It's in pretty good condition I think. A little bit of plate loss on the side edges of the top cap and possibly some of the teeth are a tiny bit bent. Looks good to me.

1917 was my grandad's (dad's dad) year of birth. Now I have razors from both my grandfathers' birth years :)

Very nice, I shaved with one the last two nights, very close shave. Yours is gorgeous compared to my severely brassed razor. :)

Hi there,

We have a member named Johnus who loves those Old Type razors. Yeah, he a crazy old loon who's shaving prep/set up consists of a Derby blade and that's it. No water, no lather, just dry. His preference is the earlier date the better, since those have even more bite than the vampire like thing of yours. Heh, I have a few but I never get em wet. Eeeks, that would hoit! Even have a beautiful old Gillette Bulldog handle version...the hell is that called? Anyway, that thing always leaves me with tiny red vampire kisses so it stays in it's coff....case. Certain Old type models can clean up well though, depending on the plating.

He must have skin like old leather! 2 days on the run was enough for me. I couldn't face a third shave with it; the first shave was great, after the second my face was sore and tender. I used a Gillette Rocket flair tip instead last night, it was definitely more gentle and forgiving although probably not as close. My old rule with open combs was only to use them if I had 2 or more days of stubble. I need to stick to that rule!
 
Got my first shave in with the 1917 Old Type today.
Really like it, didn't find it too aggressive but then my basis for comparison is a Fatip.

I'm really enjoying the two Old Types I have now. I can see they will be in heavy use in my rotation.
 
After managing to not spend any money for a while, I've bought 2 razors this month, though they didn't cost much.

First, a 1914 head from Paul (pjgh), that I've paired with a handle from the seller on eBay that does them cheap. It makes a nice change from my other SEs that have short handles.

I also picked up a PAL Injectomatic that looked a bit scruffy, but cleaned up nicely. I did worry that it was knackered, but persevered and it seems to be OK after trying a few blades.

A friend has just bought me 2 TTOs from a fleamarket, the thing is I'm still on a train back from Oxford and I've no idea what they are :D

I'm hoping for a toggle and a prototype Wilko. But they'll probably be a rocket HD and a flair tip [emoji12]
