Manky Boy restoration!

I'm beginning to get a vague idea that you are one stubborn mule, Dr. T! I had never considered it but you are another reason why I buy new, stainless razors! This project needs to turn into a money-maker!
LOL!,I am a very stubborn mule Carl!,once I get something in my head,I just HAVE to learn as much as I can about the subject,I will be the first to admit,I am always loosing sleep over my 'little projects'!,I had less than 3 hours sleep last night, mainly down to going through different plating/repairing processes in my head!,sad,I know!,but that is just the way my hyper active brain works!.I have been like this since a child!.
As far as making any profit from it,I really don't know whether I could!,I would be too scared/ashamed of buggering up someone's pride and joy!,I suppose I wouldn't mind selling off a few razors that I had bought and restored myself, but as far as taking on other members razors....I don't think my confidence stretches that far!....just yet!.
By the way everybody,my real name is Mike!.Ill put it into my sig in a minute!.

From little acorns ....

I've not seen Hippo around for a while. Anyway, competition is the heart of capitalism! (Sorta-fact, not an invitation for political discussion!)
Ok,see how Manky Boy grabs you Carl! (when done, obviously),and if you think it is of an appropriate standard.....I MAY take on some members replates!,cannot promise anything mind!.

And don't forget guy's,Manky Boy,if all goes well,is up for the Christmas Raffle (if that's OK?,I will send Manky Boy to Carl first,so he can decide whether it worth putting up or not),or just lob it in the bin!...LOL!.
Maybe bung it in for a second prize - unless it's valuable, anyway. I don't do vintage razors so have no idea. Thanks.

Second prize, third prize, makes no difference to me!,(as long as it brings in a few £ to keep the site going!).I just want to post off Manky Boy,to some trusted long term member, who can give it a little review before hand!....If you can think of anyone else who can give it a 'critical' review, let me know!,and I will happily send it off to them!.

Just caught up - good stuff.

I heard from Hippo on Etsy and apparently the Razor Spa is still an ongoing concern but I'd say there's still definitely plenty of room in the market given the amount of people who'd be interested in getting razors restored and the time it takes. Off the top of my head there's Hippo and an American firm (can't remember the name) who specialise in DE razors.

If you've got the equipment for a hobby anyway then why not take the odd job here and there to cover costs?

Thanks LeeBot!.That's nice to know!.But It is just a confidence issue with me!,like I said,I would feel awful if I buggered up someone's pride and joy!.Don't get me wrong,I have been swotting up on this electro cleaning/plating game for about 2 years, and when I put my mind to something,I very really fail in the execution!. When I do something,I am totally anal over it...It HAS to be perfect!.I was a free lance artist for a while (for about 5 years on and off, about 20 years ago),and the problem I had,was that I just never knew when to stop!,I would always find 'something' that could do with improving (to my eye),so each pic would end up in the bin because it just wasn't 'right' to me!...I had one commission actually take the 'unfinished' work from me,as they loved it,but I was going to bin it...LOL!.

Mrs DT went out with Child 2 this morning,so I have been stuck in the kitchen, listening for the postie,so I thought I would knock out some of the wiring....

That's the kitchen table underneath all that!,I better clean it up before Mrs DT get's back,or there will be hell to pay!.

I am sure the postie is getting paranoid...He is constantly delivering packages from China and Russia, and non hazardous stuff from UK chemical companies, (but does HE know that)!...The more hazardous stuff comes by courier...:).I wonder how long it will be before I get a 2am visit from M16....LOL!.

Cant see the harm in a small Thermite bomb myself...;)

Bad news on Manky Boy I'm afraid.... Apon further inspection, the adjuster ring has virtually worn out, the pitting on the safety bars is so bad, I would have to sand them down so much the glide grooves would have disappeared, the TTO knob, and the silo doors, we're also really heavily pitted, so no matter how much I worked on it, it has been so so heavily used, that it is virtually on its last legs... Good for the parts bin though!....I could of got away with a replate, but TBH, that would of given it 2-3 years more use at the very most, and that is being VERY generous!. I really couldn't send someone a razor that had such a short lifespan. As I said, Manky Boy may be resigned to the parts bin, but I am still a man of my word, and I will still have a restored vintage of some sort up for one of the prizes in the Xmas raffle!, it may well be another FB, or a Slim, New, Old, or whatever!, but whatever it is, it will be a good one!.
